    Dana 60 or 9" (Jake)

I thought I read a little about Jake having tube problems with his Dana 60 on here somewhere..

After Toms engine upgrade he's finally pulling the trigger on upgrading from his GM 10 Bolt..

He doesn't want to put "any Ford part in his car!"

We've read where pinion location on a 60 is more towards the centerline of the ring gear. Therefore taking less hp to turn. But the 60 is heavier.

The 9" has a pinion support bearing to keep the pinion gear from wanting to "crawl up" the ring gear. And it's lighter..

    What do you guys think??

Jake, is yours a Strange housing??

Tome was looking at ordering a complete rear from Strange..

I said if he doesn't want a "Ford" 9" in his car.. To buy a Fab 9..

    Thanks!
    Dan

Aren't Dana's associated with Mopar's? Strange has a deal where they have created a 12 bolt 'pumpkin' that drops out like a nine inch but use GM 12 bolt ring and pinion gears with the purported benefits of the lower hypoid angle. Convenience and brand loaylty all in one package.

If it's ever gonna see a Drag Week, I'd do the 9. It's popular and spare parts would likely to be just a couple of pit stalls away should you have problems.

Go with a 9". Every time I think of a Dana and DW, I think of the rat rod of a couple of years ago that was done when his went and he couldn't find parts. Ask Larson about rebuilding a 9" on the road- he did it this year. You can get parts at Walmart.

I read somewhere that the 12 bolt center section for the 9" wasn't that strong- on YB or somewhere...
Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?

I have a problem with both a Dana and a 9 inch; my wife won't let me talk about either one in front of our girls. Dana reminds her of the twenty-something next door and she has another problem with a 9 inch.
                  I can't believe I'm sharing this...

For ease of attaining parts in the middle of Bumf&*K Anywhere, I'd go with the 9".

Pfff.....Dana's, 9 inches, kilo's.....you gotta watch what ya sayin' around here,

Hubers did some testing on a 9" versus a beefed up 8.8, the 9" sucked 60whp more than the 8.8. Just a point of reference.
