SCTA El Mirage 2012 Season Finals

I thought I'd brag just a bit about my son Ryan setting the record in my modified roadster this weekend at El Mirage. He's been working on it all year but things kept happening to keep him from his task, most not of his doing. That was until the speed gods looked down and said now is the time, you see they make you earn those records. Anyway, Ryan managed to put a fast lap together and take his little brothers record from 213.609 to 216.503. This not only got him the record, but it gained him entry into the El Mirage 200 mph Club, aka "Dirty 2 Club".
The boys have been going to the Salt & El Mirage since they were around 3 or 4 years old so this has been a dream come true for them.
I've included a couple pictures of them with there "Merlo" hats & when they were still too young to drive any of my race cars.......

    Photos in order

Ryan gets his "hat" from Dan Warner

Mom helps Ryan pop the bubblie.... even though he doesn't drink

Kevin & Ryan pose with there 2 club hats and the 2011 LSR club championship trophy we won last year

Kevin at about 2 1/2 yrs. with his SCTA tee, I still have it

Kevin at El Mirage about 3 yrs. you can see Ryan and me in the background

Ryan at 3 yrs with me at El Mirage

Ryan & I at Bonneville 1988, he was 7 yrs

Kevin, Ryan, & myself at Bonneville 1999 after setting the record with the Kugel & LeFevers firebird. 300.787 MPH

There are very few people in this world who's opinion I value, you are not one of them.

GREAT pics! Glad the guys have been so successful - maybe a bit of help from 'Ol Dad? Either way I know they earned it. Continued best of luck

Congratulations! It took some personal fortitude to brave the cold and wind for the record! Great family pics too! Wish my dad wanted to go fast when I was growing up...

Mike - Congrats to Ryan on joining Kevin in the Dirty2 Club; I know that this means a lot to you. And thanks for bringing the next gen of LSR racers forward. Now, onward to red hats. vic

Cool pics, it's nice to see kids raised around racing.
