I'm gonna say steel too. Reason being my old next door neighbor had one and accidentally backed it into the side of the bed of his 88 Chevrolet pickup. Fin poked a nice hole in the side of the pickup, but was virtually undamaged.
Which trim are you talking about? The stuff around the roof and along the sides is stainless. The grille and side inserts are aluminum. The bumpers and hardtop window frames are chrome plated steel. The hood bar, emblems, and other odds and ends are chrome plated zinc.

dang, you're good.... normally I have to look pretty close beside touching it to figure out what metal the object is made of
Jim's got it (as usual). The SS bits are actually a different color - wish I could describe it but I know it when I see it. Aluminum trim is almost gray by comparison and chrome over steel is smoother, more mirror-like.
