I am. Thank you. Sorry your week didn't go as well. Thinking of trying to go N/A. Hope you had safe trip back up north.Originally posted by v869tr6 View PostYou the green Buick I saw and briefly talked to at the Wayside in Iowa? It's a goal. Don't know if it's possible on my budget but have to have a number to shoot for. I would like some more info on the mega squirt. My email is [email protected].Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostTen's? You're killing me smalls! I'm shooting to go bottom 12's next year, with some port work, bigger cam and maybe steeper gears (and bigger fuel pump!). I doubt I'll have the suspension work for solid 11's even if I have the HP capabilities.
And John, I've only maxed out a gold card there, there is still platinum!
Thanks

I agree. I have been hanging out over there and needless to say, there is some silliness afoot :-)Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View PostLots of them, but the best bit of advice would be to suggest visiting V8Buick.com and go to the racing section. There's some guys there that are going unbelievably fast..... also where this hack named SuperBuickguy is building some twin turbo, fuel injected monstrosity out of a 455

To me yes, you'll be fighting timing and jetting just to not ping like a mofo. If you went to fuel injection, probably not an issue. The more I think about it just have your girlfriend in a rain coat posing next to the guy your racing at every pass. :DOriginally posted by 72buickgs View PostThe block is headed to the machine shop today. I'm at 11.5:1 with aluminum heads. Cam will play a big part in that though. Runs on 91 here.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

11:1 here with a .039 quench. No problems on 91.
Getting proper quench is key to pump gas IMO. The stroked inline 6 in my jeep does not have good quench and is maybe 9.5:1 and it will rattle on 89 octane. I think 93 would be ideal for it really, at least in the summer.1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S 340 with a 360

I tend to believe that if you want a fast motor and want it to last, you need to go turbo. The turbo is going to give you the power down the track when you need it, but will let you drive the car like a mild street car when not stepping on the loud pedal. Best of both worlds really. Turbo setups sound exotic and expensive, but they don't really have to be. Building a solid motor is going to happen anyway, whether you go N/A or turbo. The extra investment in buying a turbo and sticking it on is paid back for by the savings in parts and fuel later on down the road. My twin turbo 318 powered '69 Dart is getting 21 mpg on E-85 through a 727 transmission. I am in the process of retrofitting an A518 overdrive now, so that should raise the mpg a bit more. I don't have any track or dyno numbers on it yet, but I can say it has enough power to blow the tires off when running down the highway at 65 mph and you step on it. I run a 275-60/R15 street tire. I run a hydraulic roller cam and roller rockers, but don't need out of the ordinary lift and duration to make power as the turbo's are pushing the mixture in.
I built a budget single turbo 360 for my Dodge W200 that weighs around 5000 lbs, but I reckon if you drop that combo into a street car, it would run high 10's - low 11's. In a budget build, you can add around $1000 to your build and have it turbo'd. The complete turbo setup on my W200 cost around that. It's blow through on propane. I bought the turbo off a guy second hand. It was a brand new turbo in the box though and paid around $250 for it. It's a Holset HX50.~Alain~
