I bit the bullet. Its on a truck now.

I would love to do 'Red Ball Express version 2.5', but I ain't got enough ca$h.
(food + gas + hotels + plane tix + beer = just north of $2000...)

Cheapah to just ship it. Shipping was just a little more than the cost of gas woulda been.

Planning on pulling motah shortly aftah its arrival, probly with the assistance of Goliath.

Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

Hindsight being 20/20... Might have been the first choice... At least you have a desert rear to sell to get some $$ back...
At least you will have a story to tell..
I don't have many good memories/trips with my dad... Making sure my kids have good times with theirs..

If there are bolt holes to attach the spider in the lifter valley then it's probably a roller cam block. I would not be surprised if the block was for rollers, but they were not used, that's common on Chevy truck motors (I have a 350 in my shop like that).

I'll hafta check that when I pull the intake.

If it is a "roller block" that GM assembled with a flat tappet, does it matter whether I use a flat or roller cam?

I'd sure love to spend $150 for a new cam, vs. $500+ for a roller cam + roller lifters.

Some of the 88 through early 90's small blocks are the roller cam block casting but weren't machined to accept the spider if they came with a flat tappet cam. No idea how they did it with the big blocks.

OEM roller cam parts are not as expensive as aftermarket stuff (and you have to use the aftermarket stuff on the early blocks). You can re-use roller lifters and cams, they aren't nearly as picky about wear patterns as flat tappet cams and lifters are.

So I found BBC pushrod guideplates on Summit.com... Edelbrock, no years listed. $41 for the Comp pieces, also no years listed.

Scoggin-Dickey listed their GM pieces as for "1960-90" big block iron heads.

This motor is a Gen V, which I'm pretty damn sure is a '91-'96, flat tappet, and it had guideplates.

                So what the hell?

If I buy these, I'll only know if they fit once I get 'em on there and check the alignment. *&^%$#@.....

I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

For now, "Big Dead Red" is delivered, and I got motah pullin' to do.
