I was going through ad after ad, link after link looking for front coils for the 73. Prices were running $106.00 to $142.00 plush S&H. I kicked into J. C. Whitney on accounta I hadn't been there for awhile. MOOG variable rate coils $90.00 a pair including shipping. That price included their $3.95 "heavy shipment" charge, so what the heck, right? I ordered them the evening of the 17th. No hurry. The invoice said "allow 3-5 days for packaging and shipping, and additional 7-10 days for ground transportation." No prob. I got time. I took a break from splitting wood to get a little lunch. Just as I sat down to a nice hunk of rare lean beef, the dogs went off. That's my alarm system, and its damned effective. Lo and behold, to what did my wondering eyes then appear, but the FedEx truck. I figured it was just the usual, "Hey, do you know where I can find...?" I get that a lot here. It turned out to be my springs. All I can say is, "Wow!" That's just 2 1/2 days. Now I can set them on the shelf for a week or two to marinate.
Mail Order - That Was Interesting

90% of the time, what you needed yesterday gets there tomorrow, what you dont need today gets here today.
I use RockAuto for the most part. the biggest issue I have is they tell you which parts are coming from the same warehouse, but they dont tell you where so you dont know if its a day or a week away. Actually got a call after I ordered some exhaust pipes for a repair, a guy called from around 15 minutes away saying he hates sending these fedex, if I want he will give them to me that day so he didnt have to bother with putting a sticker on it and me having to return it if it got damaged. The hardest part of the whole deal was getting them to refund the shipping charges because its not their policy to allow pickups. Never found that guy again, I think he got fired.Comment

I just ordered a vr715 for the 72 after the backup regulator started making noise, used rockauto and had no issues except when it came to getting it. They were calling for a r281 in work which is just plain wrong, amazon doesn't even have it anymore using the vr715 number, tried to get the vr715 from work to find it was $50 bucks and not available.
RockAuto had it for $15 bucks, what a rack up on the price from my job."I live for myself and I answer to nobody."

NOt surprising, auto parts are an internet commodity these days.
JC W pissed me of years ago, I wanted to order a part, and they wouldn't take my order unless I told them the catalog number or something. My fabulous web page

They had to know which catalog sold the part so they could put you on the catalog list for the next 50 years. I used to love them the way I loved old Sears Roebuck catalogs from the early 1900's.Originally posted by squirrel View PostNOt surprising, auto parts are an internet commodity these days.

Well, unless it really gets my dander up I'm just too lazy to return anything...so I should belt up and stop complaining, I know. And damn, those Jeg's boys are quick on the deliveries...just have to think about it and be in the same room as the laptop and it's hereMichael from Hampton RoadsComment

I've had mixed luck with mail order. It's been a long time back now, but when I once ordered a trans and shifter from Jeg's and got only the transmission, it took six weeks, a dozen phone calls and two letters to convince them they owed me a shifter. (After they'd charged me for it.) Each phone call I made resulted in some individual promising me that everything was fixed and the shifter was on it's way but in fact they'd done nothing at all, except get me off the phone. That, my freinds, ain't a one-time mistake...that's corporate culture. But as I said, it was a long time ago, I just never used them again. I had better luck trying JC Whitney, except they would only ship my items via Postal in that instance which meant I had to go stand in line on a Saturday to pick them up...and then two out of four boxes were missing/lost. So, no more JCW either, unless they'll use UPS or FedEx.
Everything around here comes from the local auto parts stores first, RockAuto second, Summit third. I love Summit.
But I miss my SuperShops sometimes. There was a guy around here who tried to do this little countertop-franchise thing they had a few years ago which was the best. I could swing by on my way to the store and ask for something, and two days later drop by again and get it. That didn't last for long though.Last edited by Loren; September 22, 2012, 07:30 AM....Comment
