I can't say how many times I've done a search for something and found some twisted soul as screwed up as I am or worse asking the question I was searching on.

The question is usally innocent "I'm thinking about doing X. If you have ever done X can you relate your experience to me?"

Two or three pages of "You should" and the o.p. quietly never replies again. "Why don't you" or "You should" and not one of them has ever done X or has any experience with it.

I have no answer to your qeustion.

It's along the same line that I get all the time as well: " If that was my car I would do....". That and "Why don't you" are both ways of someone giving you advice you don't want or need, but they have the desperation of giving it to you.

Everyone knows how people react to unsolicited advice, but they do it anyways.

I come down hard and unpolite to people who feel their opinion of what I should do with my car; or why I should own another car is important.

We don't get that around here much because old cars is what everyone wants, but if the stray " why do you drive old cars" come up I say " because I can".

three times in two days I've had people comment the "whydon'tyoujust...." (buy a new Corvette, get a miata racecar, etc). And I've responded with "whydon'tyoujustshoveyourheadupyourassquietly" .... I don't get it... they seem to think I'm rude

I was thinking about this subject today and if someone would give me enough money for my vette and daily driver truck i'll go buy something 1 year old ( escape new car tax) and drive happily ever after.
I say this because in a few years in the future im giving it all up anyway and selling any old car/s and parts I have and stashing the money for retirement anyway.
I have messed with old cars for 30 years now and I have had my fill and just do it now because its just my groove im in but let opportunity knock and I'll gladly answer the door!

when I'm not confused about the salt shaker bomb pop carb diffuser, I try to respond... lol. NOBODY here that I'm aware of has said "Barry, Why Don't You..." and that's why I love this joint. I sorta get the Subi thing, but the beauty thing is, I don't really have to and I don't feel compelled to try to make you think like me, same way you don't expect me to think like you. I do think I'm gonna start answering the "you should just" guys with "nope, wont't do it. Just to piss you off."

I do that to my dad sometimes and then we laugh at each other. He shakes his head at me a lot.
