I put a Camaro console model megashifter in my 80 MC - cut the console for the boot, it is really easy to make fit and look right. Roughly same height as the factory console shifter, but kept people from borrowing my car. haha. It has a reverse lockout, kind of a pita for a street car.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

it's been a million years, but my megashifter was a ton better than the Hurst ratchet shifter. Come to think of it, a Hurst his-n-hers would be cool in the MC. It's legal too I believe, reverse lockout and all.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I'm 500 miles from home right now ore I'd go into the garage and look. It was a B&M or a Hurst shifter with the aluminum box around it. Pull a couple of pins and it came off. Any, it had a ring that you pulled on with your left hand to let you get to reverse. Man that was a pain . The one that has the "T" lever under the shift handle is the way to go. You just really need to be able to operate it with one hand. I believe that b&m and Hurst are owned buy the same company now, so quality would be a wash.Previously HoosierL98GTAComment

your console should be black and not a helluva lot different shaped than this? I think this one is a universal handle. The second gen Camarobird console version is the same height as the SS shifter or really close. Lightning Rods for the weird factor but I really didn't like them.

I can't remember what the deal was but I wound up being able to use the GM cable with a minor mod. IIRC the shift indicator is not on the console so the sky is the limit for your application. Get the one from the Viper guy that showed up. The Roth looking one. ;)
Your wife / girlfriend / boyfriend / whatever can drive the His and Hers with no problems. Give some people a reverse lockout and it causes brainal seizures. My mom had and knew how to drive the olds with lightning rods. The car wash guy damn near destroyed it trying to get it out of Park. I wound up with an extra MegaShifter over that, one of the last purchases from Super Shops to give you a time frame... ended up being able to fix bent to * original shifter.Last edited by Beagle; August 21, 2012, 05:02 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

Hurst used to make better shifters than B&M, but now they're the same thing. I have a Hurst Promatic II that someone gave me, it's a piece of junk.
I'm running an old Z gate in my 55, it works just fine, even though it looks lame. I really should have held on to that original Hurst Auto Stick that I had for a short time in 1993....a friend gave it to me, and I put it in another friend's 55. Oh well. But it would need a lockout and NSS.My fabulous web page

I have a B&M in my camaro, other than melting a shifter cable on the exhaust I've never had any problems.
I have a question though, who actually has hooked up the netrual safty switch?Originally posted by TCalso boost will make the cam act smallerComment

I've noticed that the neutral switch is one thing that tech guys usually ask to see if it works.
I take safety at the strip pretty seriously.....I knew a couple guys who used to race and are pushing up daisys because they did stupid things with cars that were not even on the track. My fabulous web page

Maple Grove tests to see if the switch is hooked up.
I use a Winters Sidewinder, quality piece and takes some abuse, lots of off-road guys use 'em. I think Art Carr has version also...

I use the reverse lock-out one...
