no name car is getting back-burnered. I need a real daily driver, and because of A/C, the 90 LX notch gets the nod. This one runs and drives (ie, moves itself) but is way rough. I'm kinda nervous about the rust in the floorboards (not much) just that it's a unibody and it makes me nervous. My new retirement status has me needing to sell the Escape and replace it with something highway worthy... the 90. More to come later today.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

ah - the mighty canadian trio - Thanks for that SBG.
"retirement" and a 23 year old car - yup - that sounds about right.... besides the insurance will likely be cheaper on the older car too.
calm your fears on the slight floor board rust - if you saw the extend of the unibody rot in the 89 I parted out a few months back - that was a daily driver until I got it - a little floor perforation aint going to hurt a thing! Just make sure the K member mounts through the front subframe aren't soggy, as well as the upper and lower rear control arm mounts. There's always something new to learn.Comment

it's not all that bad, but since it runs and drives and the 90 is much nicer, I figure I should not take it apart right now and make the 90 run instead. The torque boxes seemed okay the last time I was under it.
These holes look like battery acid, they are "spotty".. and only in the back seat footwell areas where water would accumulate, but not in the troughs where I would expect to see it. The guys in Houston are calling me a pussy long about now.
I think this car spent some time on the coast, a title search on it showed it registered in Beaumont at one time. It's got some weird rust spots, but nothing structural as far as I can tell. If I get time this year, it'll get subframe connectors, roll bar, and welded up torque boxes. I was looking at the front end of it yesterday and I don't think it's ever been wrecked hard. It has some whiskey dents, but the frame rails are good and straight.

I ran into a trans issue - the C6 is a Lincoln style mount... big V style and long tailshaft. How long do you guys think a TKO will live behind a mild BBF? Not the new 500/600 class, an original TKO. ?
Edit - part two of that question - I won't have time for a turbo this year and this trans won't put up with it anyway. Do you guys think an iron flywheel will be okay below 6000 rpm?Last edited by Beagle; June 24, 2013, 01:35 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I think the TKO-3550 was still a 500ft/lb rated trans. Probably be in the ballpark of okay.
Or was it 450ft/lbs?Last edited by TheSilverBuick; June 24, 2013, 01:31 PM.Escaped on a technicality.Comment
