The good ones will throw quills when you slam or work them too hard..
I have one in the fat of my knee.. Had one in my big toe that felt like an ingrown nail.. Imagine my surprise when trying to hook the nail out and grabbed a bristle..

I have a wire wheel on my bench grinder from HF.. It has bristles on half the wheel, gone on the other half..
Here's a trick.. If the brush aint brushing, touch it with a file.. Will sharpen the tips
