    Web Blather

I get a lot of email traffic from my website's existence. After all, that's where the site came from, emails sent to me, after I got it started and going.

I don't have to do anything anymore (surfing the web, stealing stuff, etc.). I just sit on my thumbs and wait for a pretty dedicated bunch of folks to send me stuff, often the words will say, "Put this on Weeville."

And often I do. It's fun.

This one...play this one out with me. Here's the text:

This was a safety bulletin from TVA. Don’t leave your GPS, or anything else with a battery on your dash in the sun…..The battery exploded.
GPS was placed in it’s bracket in the windshield and left in the sun. The battery overheated and exploded!

Dangint I'm trying to say I don't believe it...I'm having trouble here with the platform. It's gone goofy or something, I'm functioning....TVA will never issue such a warning. (Tennessee Valley Authority, the supplier of of most of the electricity in this region).

What I HAVE seen evidence of from a lady who works where I do, was a photo where she left the phone charger plugged into the jack all the time, phone or not, and it overheated and caught her dashboard on fire. Nearly burned her whole house down.

gets me thinking of ignition bleed. A battery is never off.

my own was less than a volt, but caught it climbing to 2 something after running...

the static buildup after shutdown does build in hot airless places..tricky to find. it is never perfect, in any machine, until it is all off, one big switch.

I really had a big problem with that post, putting it together. It fell apart and didn't have all of the text, and it still doesn't.

But I don't believe a GPS unit could explode from heat. There are many smarter minds here than mine....could that happen? Until told differently, I don't think so.

yeah. i think you are right peewee. that doesn't look like an explosion. i think it looks like the gps simply got hot, caught fire, and that is what caused the damage on the windshield and the very typical pattern of smoke damage within that car.

        imo.

i also don't think there is enough 'fuel' within a std gps unit to cause much of a pop....

Gotta agree with that... Fire, simply fire...holy bastards to put out in newer cars with plastic! I have dumped 5 gallon buckets on burning bumper wraps and they keep on burning!
At home, welding on my vise with a charging battery at my feet,, no problem.. Outside..
At the yard.. It exploded... Gave me a headache.. Big boom.. NEVER DID IT AGAIN! big 12 volt did no damage..

Peedub, you can take almost any pic and post a ludicrous story about it online.

This pic was taken after a woman answered her cell phone with the interior filled with hairspray. She was applying make up and doing her hair on the way to work, and her husband called and said her sister had been in a bad accident on the way to work. When she answered, this happened to her car. Her sister and her both died the same way. Dont let this tragedy happen to you, hairspray and cell phones are deadly.

Yeah, that's a great tale. Hadn't seen that one.

I think the biggest-best one almost like that one was where if your cell phone rings while you're pumping gas, it can/will ignite the fumes. WHOOF!!!!! The Myth Busters busted that one early on. One of the first ones they did. Maybe Myth Busters is not broadcasted in Canada.

It was back in that same era, I was working in Canada for a short stretch, Dalhousie, New Brunswick. I was going back to the airport and stopped to fuel the rental car in Bathurst. Right there on the pump one of the biggest warnings, right beside No Smoking, was No Cell Phones!

They bought it. I guess the whole country of Canada bought that silly idea. Straight from the web. Straight from outlandish email stories.

My Edge tuner sits on the dash all the time but doesn't have a battery (draws it's power from Truck). So I'm not gonna worry about it.
