Tony expect about 8-10 mpg. My blazer (38s, 4.11, 205 case, 465 trans, 350mild cam gets 9 mpg) It could probably use some tuning but I am in the ballpark for the big truck crowd. The bigger tires/lower gears will do more to help your sanity than mileage. Although the jump from 8 to 9 is huge over 1200 miles.

edit: your thinking about swapping out 14bolts in the yard and your big worries are bleeding the breaks..... Man you make smile.Well I have stopped buying stuff for cars I don't own. Is that a step in the right or wrong direction?Comment

I am guessing with the combo youre running Tony, that you should see between 8 and 10mpg...I grew up in an damn near identical truck and thats about what we knocked down.If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

I remember 7-8 years back..a buddy bought a 76K20 military version,with a 350 2bbl and 350 trans and 205 trans..it had 4,56 gearing in a d44 and 14 bolt..it also had 33inch tires..we drove(i)the first 100 miles at nearly 60mph,and got like 6-8mpg..got more gas,and drove the rest of the trip in 45mph..and got something like 11-12mpg..rpms is the killer for gas mileage.Comment

Squirrel, my buddie's place has plenty of tools, jack, etc.. we'll hopefully have it pretty well started into on Sunday afternoon, maybe finish it up on Monday.
If you do want to help out, and as much as I'd LOVE to see it, leave the '55 red sled in the barn. My buddy lives on a dirt road, and it ain't exactly smooth. Although his family drives it in a saturn or something, but I wouldn't wanna see your stuff scratched. Plus its, uh, well, just south of the airport if you know what I mean. Maybe throw some 4x4" wood blocks in the back? It's always good to have some dunnage to set under the jackstands etc.. get things lined up...Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?
