Amen to that. The only way to find out is to try. At least you were taking it easy enough that you aren't totally out of commission for awhile. Rest up, get better, than get back to it Joe. Old men like us have to be careful. Wishing a speedy recovery to you.

I'm going to go in tonight and play it by ear, if I have to scale down or cut out the cardio and the leg workouts for a bit longer than that's what I have to do. In the mean time it's my day off so I'm doing as little as I can get away with and soak in a hot bath for awhile.

oj this may be healing of some kind (or even just the joints getting used to the impact of running again), but it's definitely not an excuse to stop. I'm just taking enough time to let my hips and knees recover a bit. I'm on my feet all day at work, if I can't walk I can't work. No work = I'm screwed big time, I can't jeopardize that so I'm not pushing it. Gonna go back to the stationary bike and work in some smaller jaunts on the treadmill once a week or so to see how I handle it. I feel better than I have in years, no way I'm stopping now. I'm still learning what I can and can't do, this is just a minor setback. Still blows though, I was starting to hum along pretty good.
I wasn't trying to push, prod or poke. You know what you are doing and how to go about it. I was just thinking of all the guys i know that use the same aches and pains that you are going thru as an excuse for not working out at all.

<Raises hand> All is good my friend. I was guilty of it for many years and can completely understand. Exercising is supposed to be good for arthritis, that's why I was agreeing with you about the healing part. The trick is finding the sweet spot between doing enough to get results and hobbling around for days. If you don't look for that line you're never going to find it. It took a long time to realize that line is much much lower than I'd like to admit.

I just nicked 30lbs lost from November to today. Been a lifestyle change for me and it started with the online version of Weight Watchers. Doing that, I was able to "see" what I was doing wrong with food and stuff. Like most of you guys, I have whacked soda (sparkling water is a bitchin' replacement) and generally view food differently now. No "diets" just way more intelligent eating and habits.

I also run 3 miles (going to stretch to five starting soon) in the morning when I wake up. Just that alone was an interesting change. Once I got into the groove of running and getting that whole endorfin addiction thing going it all just kind of clicked. Now I get weirded out when I don't run.

Chad was on some sort of diet at one time, but I think I am kicking his ass now.
That which you manifest is before you.

Might be better to keep it up so you can see how fat you were?
I was looking at pics of me and the wife 30 years ago... Damn she was hot! Still is, we sure were SKINNY!

I mix it up for my PT 3x a week. Most days its 3-5miles of running (if there is no lightning it's usually up and down the road going up Cheyenne Mountain) followed by a full burn out set of pushups and the P90X abb workout. That being said my favorite workout is to grab a 30lb rock and carry it around a mile down the mountain to a 45deg grassy slope and throw it up the slope back to near the top. Repeat 3-4 times. Closer to a PT test I do 30min of 30sec sprints followed by 30sec of walk then the pushups and ab set.

Since getting here I've cut 1:30 off of my 1.5mile run time and am within 5 pushups of maxing the rest of the test. Next year I'm shooting for maxing the pushups and situps for the under 30 crowd and seeing if I can't push my run time down to the low 11's high 10's.

In reality I just train for this:
Committing to the hardest obstacle course race on the planet will make you physically fit, mentally strong and more resilient. What are you waiting for? Sign up today and race with us in 2025.

Last year the rookie team I was in finished it in 2:20 but we stopped and regrouped after every obstical. Next year my NCOIC and I are thinking of doing a speed run since we're competative and compliment each other's strengths nicely. He's 6' 0" 215 and is way stronger than I am, I'm 6' 1" 175 and can run faster and with more weight thanks to years of backpacking. I'm totally pschyed about doing it again!

this is the net. with unknown numbers and no names looking at you exposing your belly.

Being that light ,I am near same, from 115 (death defying ill) to 165 normal.

going on 40, I am only one in my family with this trait. Trying to get back to 160 for years, the list of ailments is personal, actually very lucky. strict as a military. 30 pounds of meats a month, for no one else.(then wandering off to other meals elsewhere of course)

I wanted answers more than once. it left off with possible spleen malfunction, I keep going anyway. Meats is my only cure..no one tells me exactly what the freaking problem is.

if an injury is part of excersize, as tedly said, finding that line is emotionally unsatisfying. I look like a parapalegic that stood up after using nothing but arms forever.

that is the way it is with excersize. puts you in your strong and weak place. Accepting that is good.

I could care less who sees them, been shirtless in front of thousands. If one person sees how much weight he loss or how much I gained, and it inspires them, then it worth it. Add in the fact I was having to stay within a weight cut of 145 and had a few injuries, he had fluid on his knees, could barely squat when we started.

I used to never wear a shirt during the summer, wasn't trying to show off it was just more comfortable in 100+ degree weather. That was back when I weighed about 160. Metabolism slowed down, several injuries, and quite a few years later I topped out at 218 last summer. I'm back down to 187 now, give or take 2 or 3 pounds.

I'll look around and see if I can find a halfway decent pick from then and one from now.

On a side note, found a way to get more protein in my diet while cutting down on fatty snacks: grab a bag of beef jerky and substitute for chips or crackers.
