I'll admit...I dropped off last year pretty bad after the summer. Decided that I'd do it again this summer. Combining a solid Army Fat-Boy Emergency technique (metric ton of treadmill followed by long stretches in the sauna) and my new friend, the assisted dip/pull-up machine, and of course an assload of farm work, and so far the results look very positive. Since the beginning of May, I've dropped 36 lbs., a lot of ass according to the jeans, and I've gained a lot with my arms. Tried abdominals today, I can't do much...after about 40 crunches my stomach muscles go into lockdown and I have to quit and stretch out.

Abs are usually like that when you first start hitting them. lactic acid buildup in a bodypart that isnt used to it. Keep goingSi vis pacem, para bellumComment

I have been hitting the gym pretty hard lately too, though not to build muscle. I have too damn much mass as it is. I do low weight, high reps. Like dumbbell flys with only 35lbs instead of my usual 90-120, and do sets of 25-35-20. I do my arms and back with the same 35lbs, then do some abs. I can still crank out more than 60 crunches or situps without any trouble.
The best part is with the new meds the VA sent me, I can walk without a limp and without pain for the first time in ten years. I hurt a little today because I did lots yesterday, but it is very manageable, more annoying than hurting really. What that means is I can go on hikes, like I did yesterday. About four miles of walking, the dogs were more tired than I was and they only went to the beach. The day before I was on the treadmill at the gym and walked 2.5 miles at 3.2mph, which was farther and faster than I have walked since I got hurt. The weight loss helps, but the meds are doing the job quite well right now. When I make my target weight of 210 I should be able to run for short distances again, and bike as far as I want. Only 55lbs to go to make 210.
So far I am down 45lbs from March this year, and still headed downward with short plateaus When I hit 230 again I will post some pics.Comment

I have been doing flat, incline and decline dumbell presses, and flys to build my chest. Mine is like yours but with more fat on top lol. I have seen more progress in 5 weeks with the DB presses than I did in a year with BB presses. the flys will help build the upper part. Make sure you are really hitting the incline portion to help develop the upper part as well. For me it is high weights low reps so my decline set looks like 90/95/100lb db's for 10/9/6 reps ---- incline is 80/85/90lb DB's 10/8/6 reps---flat is 90/95/100 DB's 10/8/6 reps.Originally posted by kyhunter89 View Post
I also supplement with the gyms Hammer Strength machines, the sets are the same but the weights are in the 250 to 325 range...make sure you are only working the muscle group once every 7 days...it needs rest to grow...If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment
