Gary - one of the Bonneville "secrets" is that it's almost impossible to take a bad pic there (as long as it's not raining). That white background and perfect skys/sunlight make for super shots. I was talking this over with Dave Frei last year and he agreed.Originally posted by GH View PostNice photos Michael, I sure will miss all that, it was great fun while it lasted.

Funniest thing is after sitting 4 hours on a plane, before even taking off, we ended up driving to Ely,Nv. Friday night. Leaving for the salt in minutes !Reading , Pa

I think we both had a great time. I KNOW I did. Dan W was gone a lot of the time as he has many other duties including the "2-Club" that demand his time. I need to thank Dan and Mike Stewart for some excellent training this year which led to (I think) many fewer errors on my part and certainly a feeling that I MIGHT know what I'm doing - at least a little.
Don't think anyone got "locked in" although a couple were not allowed to complete their back-up runs. Very few, given the number of "customers" we had in Impound.

Dan - Good to see you in impound (even tho I didn't recognize you without the 20 lbs of beard!). Thanks for taking care of us. Set the record (actually, upped our existing record 10 mph) at 256+ with our rookie driver (#4829 C/GRMR).

Nice article in the local paper - I went down to their "Open House" they have every year for a few beers. One of the crew said the car was called "the Armadillo" and even George Poteet came over to see the car at Bonneville too. And I hope I am lucky enough to live until I reach 80.

Very cool that the old boy hit 200+. However, I doubt he did it with a 350cc Chevrolet engine. Never seen one that small! Evidently he didn't set a record in class as I didn't tech the car in Impound. Too bad, but maybe next year (I didn't find the class so I can't look up the record). It would be cool if the old guy got a red hat.
EDIT: I just called the reporter and pointed up the error, which he will fix. Evidently he misunderstood ol' George.

It was a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon - I guess I should have eavesdropped better or asked some questions. I think I heard 360CI and the record might be 214 MPH - again - if I heard correctly.
I caught the CC vs CI this morning eating my cereal but forgot about it Dan. Actually only by chance did I catch the article - I made it to the Metro section over one bowl !Last edited by 70chevyC-10; September 19, 2012, 08:54 AM.Phil / OmahaComment
