I think this is a fair assumption.

Gary, you have always and still currently, been able to refund your money the week that the event is going on as long as you didn't register. So no financial risk to register and drop out by not showing up. Before wasn't an issue and Hot Rod courtesyly asked for people that know are dropping out to let them know ASAP to work on the overflow list.
    Escaped on a technicality.

I read it differently. "We did add to the field and are still adding racers as others drop out."

As for just "showing up" . . . That one's a bit tough for some dudes "in the dual harness" (that is with an inquiring wife at home).

"Dear, I'm gonna pop for some new slicks and load up the car for a road trip. I might be back in a couple of days or in a week. It might cost $150 or $1,500 . . . . " Maybe that works for some, though.

1500? Better rethink that. Lol I'm figuring with my entry and hotels and fuel. About 3k this year. 900 is gas there and back though.

I agree with both of the above comments...I wouldn't ever try to just spring something this costly and important (to me anyway) on my wife at the last minute. Besides, I can't shutup about what happend on the last one for the first 4 months back and then I'm talking about the next one after that. I already have a different co-driver wanting to come for 2013 if I can swing coming back and both our wives are supporting it.

My wife is all about me doing it. She knows how much fun I had in 2010 doing it and supports me in doing it. The cost comes out of my side work money. I take nothing from our household income for my hobby. All the money put into the car and doing things with the car comes from automotive side work. I've gotten a decent follOwing over the last few years that work is always plentiful.

Yeah Eddie. That was a good feeling to finish the week. I tell people about it and they tell me I'm nuts. I have to explain to them ten times "no, we drive the race car, no trailers" lol

I am still having trouble getting across to my old racing gang (80's group) ............. the race car PULLS a trailer........(and also serves as a parts store)
Am SO READY to go, been reading about it long enough. Just need to get the old truck going.

With one month out you are #26 on the list and will move up as racers drop out. We have seen some attrition in the last couple of weeks. Should at least that many racers drop you will be notified by reply to your original email.

                      Thank you,

it seems you will probably make the cut, however, if you already have the week scheduled off, you should plan on being there any way. you could always "blog" about it even if your arent racin'...

i get that your wife isnt on the forum, never assumed she was, i just figured that as, ummmm, "passionate" as you have been about feeling jipped by the system, she would have heard the rumbling in the air....

hope ya make, and hope you have a frickin blast

The odds of Speedy's sister being just like his wife are astronomical, unless he's from Pennsyltucky... or maybe Fort Worth. Haha. I think you meant Mrs. Speedy's sister? grin.

Speedy, you bastard, you're not taking her with and she doesn't know any more than "some week long car thing"? ? ? You're gonna give the insiders a bad name.

But somebody's got to go to work that week to support me in the lifestyle to which I'm accustomed.

And if she was along, I'd have to explain the whole "Speedy" on-line persona thing (which I've accidentally forgotten to mention since 2003). Besides, when one of the "insiders" wised off about my glacial "storebought car," abysmal "keyboard racer" driving, or some stupid Ford fanboy/Anti LeSs thing I've posted over the years, I'd hate to see 'em whipped by a raging chick. So it's better for all of us if I'm runnin' solo (if I'm runnin' at all). . . .
