Interesting read; it sounds like they haven't changed much.

Did you see the section at the end where somebody hadn't changed his oil for 122,000 miles? Yikes!

I think the title should be that they analzyed old oil. They didn't test it to see how well it works, they just analyzed what was in it.

Interesting thing about the 120k mile oil....no mention of how often they added oil.

Perhaps it had a massive oil leak that required pouring in new oil often... I'm surprised it wasn't a useless sludge.

I went back and read the first report as well.

I was driving a sintered block into 25 years..could not figure out why the more I drove the better it stayed. Just another backwards, Subaru is notoriously backwards.

I found phosphorous dissolves in oil that is shaken. I assume that explains it. Alot of coolants have phosphates, subaru liked those for reasons that go kamikaze here. (I resorted to caterpilllar diesel coolant)

they all work...but there is strange reactions, especially asian.

Not much to look out for but friction factor. Some need it. I like the numbers they gave at the bottom of their findings.

Harley oil seems to be the most slicked...should have guessed.

I hate to admit it but I've changed the Escapes oil twice in 66k miles. I change it when it needs a quart. It's an experiment... I check it about every 20 - 25,000.

I can't tell you how many times as a kid working for Exxon stations I _needed_ to put 2 or 3 quarts in a car and people could only afford 1 or 2 to keep it from ticking or knocking. For real. They paid somebody else to put just enough oil in the mill to keep it from banging. Probably had the original filter too.

Let's not get started on steel belted radials with the cords sticking out of the tires. Sigh.

How many times did they change the filter in 120K? Even if the engine doesn't use oil you will add another quart with the filter change.
