We are pretty safe here where we live from any of these (thank God) ..... Thankfully we dropped out of the 100* temps today and the humidity is up in the 20% range .....

And allow me to rant for a minute ....

I have lived here my whole life. Back in the 70s/80s, lumber companies and such were shut out by the environmentalists from the majority of logging and culling the timber. The experts predicted the dreaded pine beetle, and low and behold, they struck. The forests are filled with dead timber, and now we have these fires ..... Thanks guys, thanks for knowing whats best for the forest ....

The article Deaf Bob posted didn't mention a few of the other things pertaining to the extreme fire problems here in Colo.
We have had an infestation of bark beetles which has caused an enormous number of dead trees and the forest service hasn't allowed much logging for many years so there is plenty of highly combustible fuel for fires to feed on. And of course there is a lot of wilderness area here where no mechanized equipment can go so no fire trucks or bulldozers allowed to cut firebreaks. Thanks extreme enviros you have caused more destruction because of this policy.

I thought it was incomplete myself..
I come from a logging/sawmill background, and know well those damn tree huggers..
Practically overnight many sawmills and gyppo outfits went under from 2 simple words. SPOTTED OWL. After studies were done.. It was NOT as endangered as the DOOMSAYERS were claiming... Did the companies and economy recover? NOPE
          Now those fires.
Wolves reintroduction... Is another. Just stupid city dwellers telling those of us how to live our lives that have to put up with their idiocy..
I hope all works out well.. Kinda late for many families... 75 homes?

Same thing in Montana.....they stopped the spraying several years ago, consequently the western half of the state is a tinderbox. Bugs and tree huggers win......

The pictures are epic. My brother, mother and uncle are in town, and from what I can see, from the Air Force Academy to Highway 24, the mountains are on fire. It's gotten so bad that even my brother's club is holding a donation drive in order to get supplies to people who need them, and I've seen that some of the storage units in the area are opening up to free storage for people that have been displaced.

That is incredible. Horrible feelings on both sides of that one. Grief at the destruction of your home and guilt that yours was saved.

Dan,Have the "Tree huggers" found a tree to hug yet?As per our conversation on the phone the other night I told you what my hometown did.If you see your Pine tree dying call us.We will diagnose what the problem is and if its Pine Beetles we will cut your tree down at no expense to keep the disease from spreading..Every spring we know that there will be controlled burns in the Flint Hills and also a controlled burn after the wheat harvest.Truly sucks for those ethat have lost their houses, pets etc.

That's the problem here .... not allowed to cut them down. If you remember that fire back in March that we had up on the north fork ..... that was a forest service controlled burn that got out of control ..... 3 people died in it and our beloved governor called king's X and threw the gov't immunity card on the table .....
