Will do Dan! ..... total for yesterday is $152 before they were too melted to sell any more. Things kick off around 9am today but I think they'll wait till this afternoon when it's good n hot outside.

Just flew north of Colorado Springs and didn't see anything, BUT also flew right over Ely and it looks like a new fire has started since I left. Pretty close to town, and my new house! A co-worker of mine just told me it was 2 miles from her house scary.

And this was after we passed it.

80% contained and mostly just burning stuff that didn't get burned in islands inside the overall fire perrimeter. It's down to the forest floor again so not as much smoke. Ironically it's really hazey now but because of southernly winds blowing smoke from WY fires down.

Rumor has it our fire was started by idiots shooting at "empty" propane tanks in the hills. I'm sure it'll be in the paper on Friday to say what the official cause was.

We just got back from the Junior race at Bandimere....it was scary seeing the glow of Colo. Springs over the hills....A small fire broke out North of Golden while we were there....the thunderstorms and wind were crazy....we recorded 70+ mph winds at the track.Coming back along the Colo River coming into Grand Junction there was another big fire....Colorado is a complete tinderbox right now....hope the worst is over.

Rain the last two days and the moutains were shrouded in clouds all day today. I hope it's over but the ground is so dry it'll need to keep this pattern of an afternoon rain up daily for most of the week to really drop the danger to the area.

Saw the burn scare in a sythetic colour image from space sometime this week and it's pretty massive. Be interesting to see what the hillsides look like after the rains and the sorrounding stuff greens up a bit.

With any luck, the hillsides should rebound nicely from the fire. From my brother and a couple of friends, right now it looks apocalyptic right now.

anybody think space weather aids in this?

No. While the dry conditions and the improper forest management plays a part, this fire is being treated as an arson at this point. It got so big because a lot of shrub plants in the SW US create their own fuel or otherwise require fire to properly interact. Any further south, and creosote and manzanita grow. A scale measurement for that is for every foot tall the plant is, expect about eight feet of flame.
