    Cool Car!

I've never heard anyone say they had too much cooling for an automatic transmission, in tank plus another is a good plan.

The best advice I ever got about lining up panels (I suck at it too) is to do one thing at a time, and start at the back moving forward, quarter panels and rockers don't move, so you have to do your best with the back and bottom of the door, then make the fender fit the front of the door, and hope you don't end up with giant gaps - or contact - at the hood.

Tape off the edges and use paint stirring sticks and like to hold gaps where you like them as you snug up the bolts.

Walking away often to build patience has always been required for me (I've only done it a few times)
    - this is one of those things that can drive an ordinary man completely insane! It looks good in pictures already!

Im looking at these pics and wondering... WHERE IS ALL THE RUST? 65 is the best year for A bodies followed closely by 69 and 70. Nice work, and it looks great! I just wish I could afford a car that is mostly there.

    Hi guys,

I am driving it now or attempting to. I will go ahead and let you know that this is my first Carburated engine, I have always run Fuel Injection. With that being said I am a little out of my relm. Any way this might open up a can of worms but I have a 455 big block, bored .30, Edelbrock heads with minor port work, performer intake with minor port work, 242/572 custom grind cam, headers, magnaflow exhaust, 10:1 compression.
I am looking to purchase a new carb, the car currently has been driven 31 miles with a 750 quadrajet and its really losing power above 2800 RPM. Timing is correct, plenty of fuel pressure. line size is fine, plenty of vacuum, etc etc.
I am debating a Ultra Street Avenger 770 V.S. carb or a Quick Fuel SS 780 V.S. I am also running an Art Carr 200R4 with a 3:23 posi rear. The car weighs 3500 lb with driver and fluids. What would you suggest?

    Thanks

are you 100% certain your secondaries are opening on your quadrajet?

I have 2 street avengers - they're okay, but good thing they were both cheap (used).
You might consider an 850 carb?
I have an (IIRC) 850 holley with a proform body - I really like that carb, downleg boosters are pretty good

and last thought - you mean 242/272 cam? It's been awhile since I was in school, but the longest (with the old math that I learned) a valve could be held open was 360*.... but who knows, maybe they have a spiral cam that allows more?

I'm 100% sure they arent opening, but it isnt due to low vacuum. The cam is 242 duration 572 lift

    linkage is good?

    wow, that's a decent lift...

Holley has a great tech line - have you run your numbers by them to see what they might suggest?

on the passenger side of the carb is the choke setup. There is a lever that keeps.the secondaries from opening when the choke is closed. Make sure that it not stuck or out of adjustment. Also, the secondaries air door at the top of the carb has an adjustment that is spring loaded. There is a screw on the side.that adjusts the spring's tension. Below that going up is an allen head set screw that you have to loosen first. The spring should keep.some tension on the air door. You dont want them to flop open. Be very careful not to overtighten the spring and break it.

My '70 Caprice's Quadra bog is sitting in the storage closet. It worked fine, but I replaced it with a Holley 3310 almost immediately after I bought the car. I even let a friend use it for three years on his chevelle.
