It was a one owner car. The original owner lives in Florida from November until the end of April and in Canada from May until the end of October. It was garage kept, never driven in the snow and only had highway miles back and forth between his two homes.
Sounds like a great find Jim! Now talk Norb and Terry into coming along too.

Thanks Linda. I think that Norb and Terry may join us. The WST starts a few days after our car club's show the weekend before.

Rett, Norb and Terry bought a 2002 convertable back in October from the original owner in Virginia. It's an automatic, blue with tan interior and a black top. It has a bunch of upgrades and looks really sharp. Maureen and I had been contemplating a C5 and while we were on vacation the 99 jumped out and said "Buy me!!!!" So, we did. We bought it from a Chevy dealer and stole it. Figuratively speaking that is. As for a trailer hitch, I think the trunk space in the C-5's is sufficient enough to allow luggage for a week or more eliminating the need for a trailer.

Yes everyone Terry and I are planning the WST, sounds like fun and we really havn't done a lot out west. After last years PT Terry said we needed a car with A/C, not going to put A/C in the Cyclone or 68 Vette so the 02 fell in the pic. and with the sounds of fuel cost probably a good move.

Glad to hear of other corvettes coming on the trip. I will be driving my corvette also, a 427 convertible.

In the meantime, if anyone is interested in an incredible weekend in Moab, Utah, they are hosting a great car show with several side trips into Castle Valley and Dead Horse State Park the last weekend in April. I will be staying at the incredible Red Cliffs Lodge which is on the banks of the Colorado River, check it out at RedCliffslodge.com. I'll be there the nights of April 25, 26 and 27. Come on out for the cruising into Castle Valley on the 26th or the show/cruise on the 27th!

Hi everybody, I have a new facebook page that will be the primary location for information on the 2013 Western Scenic Tour. I will continue to post here for those that do not have or participate in Facebook. There were a few of you that came on to my old Western Scenic Tour facebook page but I have deleted that page and opened a new Western Scenic Tour facebook page and it has the current dates and overnight towns. I hope to have the hotels listed this week. Please check in frequently for updated information both here and on the Western Scenic Tour page. Here is the current city/towns along with the dates

Sept. 22: Las Vegas, South Point Hotel, 702-796-7111. About $59

Sept. 23: Zion National Park, Thunderbird Hotel in Mt. Carmel, 455-648-2203, about $112

Sept. 24: Moab, Utah, Red Stone Lodge, 435-259-3500 (primary) or Big Horn Lodge across the street at 435-259-6171. About $94

Sept. 25: Ouray, Colorado, Rivers Edge, 970-325-4621 (primary) or Twin Peaks Lodge at 970-325-4427.
Sept. 26: Ouray, Colorado. About $81

                Sept. 27: Head home

Do not wait on making reservations as there are limited space in some of these places. Of course if you have your favorite place in these towns, feel free to book there. No group rates, be sure and use AAA if you have it. Moab in particular books fast.

Thank you, now here are some fun facts about the places we will be visiting!

Las Vegas: Bugsy Siegel a well known mobster, was largely responsible for setting up Las Vegas as a gambling paradise. His venture into the hotel business however was a disaster and he spent lavishly furnishing the almost 100 bed hotel which he named the Flamingo, inspired by the long legs on his girlfriend who was a showgirl!

Zion National Park: Zion, a Hebrew word meaning "a place of peace and relaxation", was given to the canyon by Mormon pioneers in the 1860's. Zion National Park is 229 square miles and was established in 1919. The record low temp is -20 and the record high temp is 104 in 1985. I think I was there during that time!

Moab, Utah: The name Moab comes from an ancient biblical kingdom. Outlaw Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch Gang got into many robberies and shootouts with Moab's lawmen. Their Robbers Roost hideout was in a wild maze of canyons east of town.

Ouray, Colorado: Originally established by miners chasing silver and gold in the surrounding mountains, the town at one time boasted more horses and mules than people. The town was named after Chief Ouray of the Utes, a Native American Tribe!

You don't need a new fancy car to cruise with us on the Western Scenic Tour. Heck, take this car for example. Throw on some wheels and tires, an engine and trans, maybe a differential, some brakes, steering wheel, seats, windows, fluids and some headlights and you are good to go! Don't miss this tour!. Meet in Las Vegas, September 22, 2013 !

Stay tuned here or check out my facebook page at Western Scenic Tour!

Doug, You're killing me. I'm going to have to only spend one night in Ouray,CO. I have to be home on the 27th night and you have me 873 miles away..We go to a car show every year that I choose not to miss. It's for Prostate Cancer and I'm a survivor and help out with some of the set up for a booth we go into..I'll enjoy at least one night there...

Hotels, phone numbers and dates listed a few posts above. Book asap as there is limited room in the host hotels but several secondary hotels to stay at.
