resist the urge to motorize the big wheel... or not. lol. I would have killed for that! Indoor bigwheel track with only a few expansion thump thumps in it? Yes!

He has a pretty badass pedal car - 55 Chevy that his grandpa customized for him (upholstered seat, custom paint). We have been working with him to get used to the idea of the pedals to become mobile and the whole steering thing. Once he figures that out I'm sure the tires will be bald LOL!

Picture of us before Holloween night, wheelstands are FUN!

I suppose I better update this.
Been working on the inner framed shop as far as the design goes and have a materials list that I need to go pay for. So here is basically the rundown of what is next for my new shop:
The back 23' of my shop will be sectioned off and then I will divide that into two rooms so each room will basically be 20'X23'. One side of it will be my "Clean Room" and the other will be my Machining Room.

Here is the Sub Floor layout over the whole area. The bottom floor/main level will have 9' tall ceilings for taller equipment that I have.
The opening on the bottom left of the pic is for the stairs going up to the second level. I'm making them wide to carry bigger objects up if so desired at 6 feet wide.

This would show an idea of what the upper level would be like. Now some of you will get a better idea of WHY I put those windows up so high. Be nice to have a view from your office right?
I hope to have the materials here in the next few weeks but looks like a few items are special order....

Nick - looks great - what software are you using for the layouts?
Any consideration for a hoist / trap door type set up to get the heavy stuff upstairs?
We're buying a new place that has an existing 30x40 gambrel style barn with the upstairs finished - but a standard 30"ish wide staircase going up stairs with finished walls - I'm thinking of putting doors in the floor/ceiling with an I-beam in the roof truss, trolley, chain hoist set up to get heavy stuff upstairs. There's always something new to learn.Comment

My choice was to build the mezzanine and put the lighter stuff up there - but I don't have the square footage you have. But it WOULD be nice to put some of the six cylinders up there!
Nick - did you see my post on my air plumbing? You were thinking you might be interested. It's somewhere in "General".

I'm still considering a trap door with a hoist, not sure just yet cause I still have other plans for alot of the heavy stuff elsewhere. I'm gonna build this but may modify later if needed.Nick Smithberg

I'm going to revisit your thread, I'm just trying to do the building in stages and as I have more funds available. Been working like crazy lately to get some money rolling in. Lots of things to buy yet.....Originally posted by DanStokes View PostMy choice was to build the mezzanine and put the lighter stuff up there - but I don't have the square footage you have. And the progress continues! Finally got a chance to make some more progress on my building. A good friend came over today and helped start the framing for my inner shop. We got three of the walls framed up so far and things should really begin to take shape in the next few weeks!

I also finally got to bring my vertical mill home, it safely made its travel and is all kozy hidden under a blanket in my shop. It sure looks funny with the head upside down.

This is the part that gets exciting for me because now I get to see the space that I will now have. Hard to believe how a few stud walls really changes the feel of the space. Nine foot ceilings are going to be awesome in there!Nick Smithberg
