    Onward through the fog!

Got a cd from Edelbrock with catalogs and installation/tuning info on carbs. The truck has a Carter AFB, same-same Edelbrock I understand. The vid says that the back large vacuum port should be blocked and the front used for pcv. Mine is the opposite. There is also a large one on the right side that is blocked. It says that the upper (ported) vacuum port should be used for the distributor and the bottom one (on the driver's side) should be blocked unless you have an automatic. I have an automatic. The ported vacuum line is hooked to the front of the distributor. The unported one (driver's side) is hooked to the back of the distributor. The transmission is hooked to a vacuum tap off the rear of the intake manifold.

As far as I can tell, things work. Will they work better some other way?

    Old dog, still learning.

Distributor should be hooked to a full manifold vacuum source, your car will idle and run better and run cooler.
If you need details on how to set it up I can help.

running warmer is the engine advancing.

I am curious to the two ports..
I also use one progressive, and one for blippy throttle (always on- catches retard), both right at the disty. double chambered. one small, one big. the big one does the real advance, the little one catches giant throttle blips.

If I had to choose for only one at distributor, especially v8..go for the ported. change timing to the dead idle. Some can, some can't. my four cyl won't run on ported alone. won't even start.

I never had that ported/progressive disty for the cars I ran..always thought it was silly.

it does work. A four cyl needs both. not sure why. it simply won't run without the always on retard catcher...then it won't advance without another advance chamber going with ported.

a v8 likes to climb, could put it anywhere, either one.

Ported vacuum for a distributor is a emission set back brain wash.
Go to this site and go down to timing and start to read.

I've read that article before, IIRC you posted that on one of my posts in the past also. The link isn't working, maybe you have to be a member logged on to read?
