I also think anyone who buys just 1 aftermarket performance part and installs it on a street car or truck is a hypocrite if they say one negative comment about street racing.

But from all that I've read and digested here on this whole site, I've picked up on the problem in SoCal. I've got nothing invested in it, but when you close down all the drag strips in the area, the folks who want to see what a car will do WILL do it, somewhere.

I'm not making any point here, other than they need to reopen some strips in SoCal if for no other reason than to take the street racers' excuse away.

Those street racers, at least the ones I know, would street race regardless of if there are legal tracks or not. It is so much more fun to sneak out behind the barn for a smoke...

They would go to the tracks for the official numbers but that had nothing to do with the love of being out in the middle of the night in a clandestine environment.

The whole street racing thing....yes, I did it when I was a young kid, and from today's vantage point I had not a clue about anything in this world, including how stupid street racing is/was.

But it seemed alright then, because there was no traffic in what was then a small town. I didn't see it happen, I was always wary of cops, but I heard of an instance where a cop parked and watched a race between the stoplights when he had bet on which car would win. The '70's, at that time. It was American Graffitti, I guess.

The reopening of Irwindale's 1/8th actually made the local news on several channels with the story about the need t get kids off the street and give them a place race. This is the Thursday night test n tune deal I'm going to make use of myself tomorrow. 20$ and I'll get four runs in before the place is over run with imports.

Cool beans Bill! That's just alright, and good news all the way around. Be sure to give us all a report! Videos, photos, opinionated words and... all that stuff. I'm a continent away, but it's great to know things are opening up out there once more.

EDIT: From here I had to drive my car 5-6 hours to do what I wanted to do with it (legally and safely). Hardly anybody can do that realistically. So, the local venues are the way to go. Apparently the local news channels out there have picked up on that, it's great that they did.

Okay, this whole subject has me thinking, and I'll go back in time.

Then and now. The biggest baddest thing in town (but he chose not to street race) was a Mustang with a 351 Cleveland. Built, built, built. Thumping and stuff hanging out of the hood.

Y'all know far better than me, but I'll bet the late model 5.0 Stangs from the factory or the 302 Boss would smoke that thing. It's apples versus oranges. It's back then, the 70's. The fastest thing then was based on what was available. So you raced on the street to see what you had.

But nobody was as fast.....as....we had no dream or imagination of turbochargers back then. Godalmighty. 3, 5, 7 times the horsepower from the same engine block? CRAP, we had no idea that would ever happen before the end of the world.

That's why I'm against street racing now, because of what's available. Too much for the street. And it's been said here before over and over and probably said better than that, but that's my words for my stance on it. It's too late in history to race on the street. Hotrods are just too fast these days to do that with them.

Bob's truck , pdub, has something you don't. A blower. (that and some crank vents. Bob, did you get that fixed?) This blower thing (Blower Blower Blower) is something which your car needs so it doesn't get outrun by an F150. KT would be pissed if you let the L run for a mile, from what I remember. It's got at or more than 140 in it in a mile, stock.

we did dumb stuff with slower cars when I was a kid. The fastest thing I remember was a ratted out Firebird good for mid 10's and it was way too much for where it was running. I can't even fathom an 8 second ride on that road.

It's not my thing, but I get it that folks still do it... location and intention mean a lot. We have too many kids wiping out and not coming back from a 100mph fubar on surface streets here. Is it the media's fault? What about the parenting (lack of)?

Back at the thread, I wouldn't recommend it. You might be tempted to display accelleration. That's why I drive an Escape 4cyl most of the time. License preserving machine it is. hehe.

I am a top end freek... so i've commited more sins against society than i ever want big brother to find out about. as for CarCraft 'promoting' street racing.... i don't see it out of this article TC... it does appear to me to be just half decent reporting of a situation. just journalism without much bias... almost refreshing... ....................i've street raced for 30 yrs, piss on 'the man'.
