Ever watch the Discovery channel show? The guy with the red Camaro almost splattered himself into a semi in one of those street races. I appreciate that was the final action of the programDoing it all wrong since 1966 -

Firsthand, I'm in that crowd, and the coolest girls are always with the "baddest guy". If you think about it, the majority of atreet racers have the same personality type. Bad boys huh? you've got nothing (joking).
My ex-wife has a daughter. And like all daughters are wont to do, she got herself a boyfriend whom I did not cotton to. So one fine afternoon, he and I were talking in the backyard, he made a comment about how women found him so very attractive. I threw my arm over his shoulder (picture, I'm 6-1 200lb, and pretty fit, him 5-5, 120) and walked him over to a planter in the backyard that is reminiscent of a pine box used for burying folks. I point to the box, and tell him that if he touches my daughter, I'll bury him in that box - and because I'm a lawyer, I'll get away with it. I was saddened to see several things: 1) that he only noticably got whiter and didn't pee his pants, 2) that he literally was quivering, and 3) he pursued other options in his chasing of female companionship.Last edited by SuperBuickGuy; June 11, 2012, 02:37 PM.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

In my jaded and insulated opinion, there is in this whole world not such a thing. Only people who who think they are. And they are so very wrong. They are so wrong, or they wouldn't think so.Originally posted by bjohn"Badasses"Last edited by pdub; June 11, 2012, 03:24 PM.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

I read the article and thought to myself, "Holy shit, this article will make TC start a nasty fight on BangShift."
No kidding, that is exactly what I thought. The official Bangshift garage door guru. Just about anything can be built using garage door parts, trust me.Comment

If you don't like the CarCraft article, I'd suggest not reading it and don't let any kids that are your responsibility read it either - that's a choice we should all be so lucky to make.
What would really suck is if people made a big fuss, and the magazine stopped covering such stories altogether. Let's be careful not to legislate other peoples' morality, TC I know you are generally on the side against that kind of crap. CarCraft is simply reporting the state of things; let's not kill the messenger.Last edited by dieselgeek; June 11, 2012, 04:24 PM.www.realtuners.com - catch the RealTuners Radio Podcast on Youtube, Facebook, iTunes, and anywhere else podcasts are distributed!Comment

I'd expect that far more people will have been exposed to the National Geographic Channel show mnetioned by SBG, LA Street Racers, than will read the CC article. Sorry Doug. Remember when National Geographic was high brow academic stuff?
Many of the cars and the people are on that short run 'documentary/reality show' so the originality factor was a question for me. That said, don't be surprised if there is more coverage of these um, activities in CC or even some kind of safe version of street racing event.
I'm at the age where I know street racing is stupid and dangerous and I wouldn't do it ever, but I have to admit that I did it too back in the day. We were of the go out in the middle of nowhere and run 'em off approach. Not the even stupider racing in traffic on the freeway stuff or the chimps in their Hondas racing in neighborhoods.
If you have a week to kill, there are days worth of clandestine street racing videos on Kyle's 1320 Video site just to mention one. It seems every street race everywhere now has twenty people recording it on their phones and posting to You Tube. That horse is way out of the barn. That CC is reporting on it isn't the issue in my view, that it's fodder for reality TV is a bit more troubling.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

I just watched that video Bill, and the one after it. What a huge difference between the guys putting up $7500 and the kids in Hondas. Deserted road vs stopping in traffic. 2 cars running and maybe 10 people watching, vs 200 cars and kids everywhere standing in the road.
Its one thing to go off on a deserted road and possibly wreck your car and the guy racing you, or at worst run over the flagman. Its entirely different to get stupid with families in minivans, swerving around and driving like complete idiots on busy streets. Sure they are both illegal, but one is just plain stupid and endangering people who have nothing to do with the race.
It reminds me of Kuwait City. There is a system of highways around the city, they call them rings. 6th ring is built up quite a bit, but 7th ring is a 4 lane that goes out in the desert and happens to be the way we took to work at the airport. It wasnt unusual to have kids in 4 cylinder cars go flying past us when we were doing 80-120mph in the Suburbans, then turn around and come back down the highway towards us in one of the other four lanes. Its kind of expected in the persian gulf, they get all sorts of stupid over there, but doing it in a major city here in the states? Yeah that is the kind of bullshit I have a huge issue with, and yeah if I see it I will get the cops in on the fun.Comment

That was me in the early to mid 90's, hit up the midnights every weekend, used to meet up at Sonic on Deer Valley Rd........Originally posted by CDMBill View Postbut I have to admit that I did it too back in the day.
Honestly I just took the side I did to see what kind of reaction I would get....... I'm sure if I was all for it, the reactions would be different......... IMO they should have tracks that allow people to run what they brung without all the safety tech that goes with all the big tracks........ I think it is stuff like that that drive people to race on the street, well that and tracks aren't open at 3 o'clock in the morning.......... A nice quarter mile track with a race at your own risk waver that needs to be signed that is open all night long is what every major city needs......... City run and maintained and just so people can street race............Comment
