back there you said when you turn the key the volts go to 0. Where are you measuring the volts? on the starter? could it be as simple as a battery cable or wiring on the solenoid?

the car has a volt gauge this is basically a dead short at this point.

we checked the S terminal on the starter and got nothing with the key on run.
meanwhile the fuses are getting power.the starter switch is good......there is a theft deterrant relay that completes the starter circuit that grounds itself. it should be behind the hood release.

        that's next to test

A dead short will be blowing fuses, melting wires, etc .... voltage going to zero is an open circuit

yeah open circuit I'm sorry just a little burnt.

plugged in the code scanner and turned the car to basically have the code reader saying the key is not in the on position.

cannot find the theft relay looked in the book,on another website it's saying it is right above the left of the brake pedal bracket and there is suppose to be a plate with two screws.take the screws out and the module and relay are together.....basically I think the aftermatket alarm the guy hooked up a 40amp relay cause the yellow starter wire is tied into it.my father felt the relay when he turned the key and the relay was kicking on and off.

unless that alarm is cutting out the pass key deal, the scanner would not be telling you the position of the key if it was an alarm deal.

Nothing to do with any sercuity system. The tip of the MSD Coil we installed on the car rotted off and the wire running down to the Opti-spark was green-molded inside{ No ohms or anything}. New Accel coil is on, now I'm watching on a Module coming from Amazon tomorrow. It will def. start now.

                no more msd after this.

                      Update:

I shouldn't have said it would run

Found a hidden relay under the passenger side of the dashboard kick, so not one but 2 40amp relays in line with each other.Changed it, hooked up the interior and then messing with that Innova code reader and setting it to a 92 b-body got the following codes.

                      Map Sensor High Voltage
                      VSS Issue{Neutral Safey Switch?}

Cleared the codes and wiggled the column up and down and it started Looks like the last part I buy is the issue.now, to get it inspected and change the switch.

you mean the last part you could possibly buy. damn, probably a frayed wire on the harness. we have an 03 chevy van with the digital odometer and PRND's, when the neutral safety switch went on that it went to the 2. If I didnt notice that little circle around the 2 I would have probably been thru everything you went through.

I have heard the VSS as vehicle speed sensor, I dont think the neutral safety switch would throw a code.

I know, it's messed up I had to set the code scanner to 92' to get it to work, I sent it back to amazon and I'm looking around to find another code scanner that will work with the car. From the reviews i've been reading, i don't know if i"m going to be getting another one. I really think what happened was one relay was no good and was causing an issue. I think this also happened for a reason cause she got pissed at him for not checking stuff for so long

I started with a couple scanners, then went to ebay for the old red brick scanner for the older stuff. ends up being around 250 or so to get one with a TSI that has a range of cars on it. At least you get to actual manufacturers instead of generics. Of course I learned about the TSI after I got one with a boat load of years and separate cartridges, but at least we are covered for OBD 1 and 2. Eventually we went up to the Modis for the newer stuff instead of getting back to multiple cartridges.
