Interesting. I can't wait to do some experimenting with the stuff this year.
    I'm still learning

Just heard a rumor that some AMC folks have been working with Edelbrock make a short production run of STR-11 AMC crossrams.
I followed up on the rumor, and it's true.:D

Very likely, the price will be pretty high, but I’ll start a penny jar now

They will not be available until July so it will not be on the car for the Optima Face-Off in June, so I’ll get the new motor running with a good carb and my Torker intake for that.

I am WELL aware of the difficulty of getting two carbs working properly on a street motor, but I also know it can be done.

I am imagining a nice Traco gray 401 with aluminum heads and a cross ram topped off with a big fabricated ram-air box.

Aside from visual impact, I like the concept of the cross-ram as it relates to long, straight intake runners and large plenum design. Obviously dealing with fuel distribution is the trick, but good tuners have been getting these to work for some 40 years now.

That sounds like a great set up. I'm a big fan of dual quads and keeping them under hood only adds to the cool factor.

You might want to send that intake to Nick along with the heads.... might as well know what it will flow - and help it flow more - before you bolt it on the engine.

              ;-)

Due to time constraints, Heads are going on as-is for this season. I was planning some port work for this winter but it’s just not going to work out.
Not going to let perfect get in the way of Done (or Driving in this case). Guys that have flowed the AMC Edelbrock heads state that out of the box they flow as good as ported iron heads, and have the benefit of a much improved combustion chamber. I’ll put those heads on the 343 if for some reason the 401 doesn’t get done.

A little view of things to come
And No, I'm not fabricating this, leaving it to the experts. Will have a custom pickup and external oil feed from the pan to the oil pump.

Very awesome, really like those 1st gen. Javelins. Big large chairs, but AMC was probably the first to have recliner on most of their backet chairs.

Pick up the short block next weekend , calculated cr is 10.38:1, didn't want to go any higher than 10.5:1 for pump gas.
Now lots off little stuff to buy that will inevitably cost way more than I think it will.
This is going to be an entirely different car with this transplant!

Also replacing cast iron intake, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and cast iron heads with lighter aluminum and tubular bits, so the weight on the front of the car will be a bunch less too!

Open to suggestions on carb size, I'm thinking something in the 850 cfm range??

I've been told over the years, 401's are all forged from the factory. What kind of HP will they put up with?
