Grandpa Johnson traded a 65 barracuda in on this car at Whipple Plymouht, Ventura CA in 72. Grandparents drove it all season for the next few decades and 324K miles. I Inherited it in 1990. My Grandparents lived in Big Bear Ca where they drove over salted roads with studded snow tires seasonally.
Orig 318 rebuilt in 1991. Mild changes incl. bigger intake valves and head porting, forged pistons, old grind camshaft etc. MSD ignition...The usual stuff
Unusual stuff: F&B six barrel MPI with BS3 management. Rebuilt orig. 727 with trans cooler. Orig 8 3/4 with a used 3.23:1 Suregrip center. The rest is rebuilt stock.
Stock brakes (power front disks, drums out back) New Fine lines stainless steel brake lines. Mopar Perf circa 92 suspension includes modified superstock springs, big front torsion bars, Addco sway bar, stiff bushings and KYB shocks. Basic stuff. Its 2012 though and Im looking for some better performance... Maybe Hotchkis?
Repro 15x7 ralleys with BFG T/A radials painted med argent silver. Had 14" ralleys stock. Cats peed on the repro center caps and now they look worse than the originals...
Car had severe rust. Its been patched in many places (by Me and Ryan M). Orig panels still since granparents were great drivers. Painted it in my driveway a few years ago. Double hump hood was too rusty so the AAR repro went on, forcing the blackout treatment IMO.
Stock Y4... After 400K miles its not looking so great... Gold dash and light yellow seats, headliner and door panels are hard to find in any condition. Grandpa knew it was an oddball and dealt hard for a low price. BS3 is mounted behind the glovebox cardboard.
Going on 500K miles (about 18 mpg) was a mid 14 sec car with the 3.07 open diff and carb...hard to launch though. They bulldozed Carlsbad raceway.
