My Mom was a PITA Operative back in the day driving get-away cars from the City of Hope, bringing dogs home that had been exposed to God knows what...I am not entirely ignorant of the cause.

Seriously though......I'm curious for more details about this? First, I thought it was PETA - what's PITA stand for? City of Hope? Dog exposure? This is all greek to me?

Stiney it is PETA I am just so used to typing PITA my fingers just auto-type it.

The City of Hope is a huge medical animal research facility out here, PETA would get a group together and break in and remove the animals that were being experimented on, my Mom never did the break in stuff but she had a Toyota station wagon and would load it up with these dogs and cats. PETA then would find them homes. So it was a animal rescue mission. I don't think they really do that anymore but back in the late 70s early 80s they were.

Stiney - PITA is People Eating Tasty Animals. They try to act like animal rights activists to cover up their evil agenda (there's that word again).

I'm a HUGE animal rights supporter but there needs to be some common sense around it. Torturing animals for research is just wrong but sometimes medicines and so on MUST be tried and evaluated on a living being and I guess animals are it. Still no excuse for cruel treatment.

And food animals are just that - food. Cattle and their wild cousins exist to turn plants into meat for carnivores and omnivores (like humans) to eat. It's just their place in the Universe. Again, no excuse for cruel treatment. For an interesting education on this, Google "Temple Grandin" (I think I spelled her name correctly) - interesting lady.

Gail - I don't think of establishing yourself as the pack (or herd) leader is "dominating". In Nature, SOMEONE has to be the leader of the pack and in a human/animal pack it better be the human. So you simply establish yourself as the leader. Kind but firm. Kingsford now gets it although he did challenge for the Pack Leader position in his teens, which is normal in Nature. The Mom and Dad persons made it clear that they were in charge.

So, Gail, about your outrageous fortune... did your taking up arms against the sea of PETA end the argument about the elephant rides? I wouldn't mess with those things. They get a taste for blood and will kill their handler, the thing on their back, and everything else around. That's not a PETA thing.. I wouldn't assume my Lions were all that tame either. Ask that lion-lunch dude Roy or Sigfreid or snack or whatever his name is.
