Well I got most of it built up today... I'll put the pan onOriginally posted by CDMBill View PostNice progress. Pictures please. I don't read the articles I just look at the pictures.
tomorrow and prime it to see if the oil pressure is what
I'm looking for... if all is well I'll drop it off Monday to
have it set up on the dyno... Tuesday we should be
beating on it and find out some numbers... as soon as
I button up the engine I'll take a few picks.... I think
I'll take 2 carbs to the dyno session... a 850 DP and
a 1050 dom... just for fun... with the 4150/4500 adapter
it wont fit under the cowl hood but I can machine the
intake if I want to so it would mountComment

it is an acceptable reason to put a taller cowl on the carOriginally posted by MR P-BODY View PostWell I got most of it built up today... I'll put the pan on

If it makes that much more power, believe me.... I will make it fit...Originally posted by SuperBuickGuy View Postit is an acceptable reason to put a taller cowl on the car

I had to machine a couple of manifolds to fit the 4500s... one is
on my race car.. that one is e-85 on a 405ci... I've got one thats sitting
in the shop but its a gas 1050(thats the one I'll take with me to the dyno)Comment

Here's a pic of my engine... this is a 418ci SB mopar..Originally posted by CDMBill View PostNice progress. Pictures please. I don't read the articles I just look at the pictures.
W-5 heads ported by me... flows 310 @ .700
cam is a solid roller 105 lsa, installed at 103, .640/.640
260/270 at .050... TD rockers.... 10.9:1 compression
this whole engine was built with stuff I had laying around
the shop except for the pistons which are Diamond... so
for being a throw together engine its starting to cost me
more than I figured with the issues I had... if it makes 550 hp
I'll be fine with that.. the engine guy thats helping with advise
says it should make 590hp with no problem... maybe so but all
I need is 525 to 550
M-1 intake with a 850DP...
When I was moving pics some how my race car got in
this post and I havent figured how to delete it on this post
oh well... now you get to see it alsoComment

I ran it on the dyno but had problems.. it lost 100 ftlbs of torque in 3 seconds on
the second short pull.... ran a first short pull to 4500 rpm and it made 463 hp
468 ftlbs torque and then it started eating itself up on the next pull, it was down
the 100# so I pulled the filter and seen metallic in the filter.. so I pulled the pan
and 4 rod caps and a main.... they looked fine other than some of the partials
that got embedded but really nothing... I told them to pull it off the dyno and
I'd pick it up to take home... well I picked it up today and torn it down... seen
scratches in 2 of the bores but that was it... cam bearing, rod and main bearings
were fine(some embedded partials again)... I even had one of the engine builders
stop by my place to take a look .. he was stumped also... we have no idea where
this alum is coming from.... I cleaned that block 3 times before I assembled it...
all I can do is hone the cyl and CLEAN it again and start over...... I have no clueLast edited by MR P-BODY; August 17, 2012, 07:36 PM.Comment

Hope you get it figured out. The last 455 I built ended up getting torn down, everything honed again, and put back together. It got something stuck in the ring lands that started scratching a couple cylinders. No idea where it came from, lucky thing I found the scratches in the cylinders.
Is it the thrust bearing by chance? Only other thing that crosses my mind is cam bearings.Comment

Did you have a hole go away on you? Did you get the dyno sheets, complete with egts?
I'll throw away any political correctness here and say, as we used to before all the harassment training, this car is "tits."
I like everything about it.
Run it at Bonneville. There are so many soft records in modified pickup that you're bound to get a couple of records.Last edited by Bob Holmes; August 17, 2012, 08:59 PM.I'm still learningComment

no not the thrust bearing... it looks like new
No I didnt bother with the dyno sheet on the 2 partial pulls but it should make 600+hp
and about 550 tq based on what was seen on the short pull.... all I really want is 550 hp
so I think I have that covered
thank on the car.... never gave it any thought of running Bonneville.... but would be cool
to have a recordComment

I dropped off another block today to have decked... everything on
it checked out good just needs to be decked and I'll put the same
parts on this block and have the original block bored to fit a larger
set of pistons... should be ready for pick up on Tuesday ... have
to clearance the bottom of the cyl for the stroker... just a minor
bit of grindingComment
