I got my new block back from the machine shop... had it bored,
decked, line honed and power cleaned... I checked it out for clearances
and the rods and mains are at .0025 so I'm good there...mocked it
up and it looks fine... so I pulled it apart and glued screen in the intake
valley (I normally do in case valve train parts break)... cleaned it 1 more
time then painted it ... cleaned it one last time and started the assembly
work......I hope it works this time.... never did find out where the alum
came from.... but it sure wasnt from any parts inside the engine... I want
to get it on the dyno next week

Its all assemble ... just waiting on the silicone to dry up on
the oil pan then put oil in it and prime the system... I'll do that
tomorrow and then get it on the engine rack to transport to the
      dyno

Well I ran it yesterday on the dyno... had a couple of issues...
one oil leak at the remote filter fitting ... the springs I put on
should have been stronger... they're 255# on seat and this
roller needs more... we were getting valve bounce starting at
5500 rpm to 6500 rpm... so I need to change them.... it made
547hp at 6400 rpms and 525 ftlbs at 4800 rpm.... thats pretty
low for rpms so I'm sure it would make more power but it is
what it is ...the cam is a roundy round cam and has a pretty flat
torque curve... it was within 20# of peak from 4400 rpm to 5800..
all in all I can live with it but I will change out the springs... its
in 1 piece so thats what counts and now I know my torque conv
should work pretty good with it

Thanks guys.... I can only run 10.0 now days so this should
get me real close.... this engine was built with stuff I had laying
around the shop so its not a well balanced system... the only
thing I didnt have was pistons (for a pump gas engine) so if
I want to change out a couple of things I'm sure I can make
more power but then again it would put me faster than I can
                legally run

in today... I'm getting pretty good at it by now...LOL

NICE I can't wait to see this thing in person some day - are you going to do any testing at Mlian before they close up for the year?

Hard to say... I might do some early testing at Lapeer(much closer)
but its coming into hunting season so I usually put my car stuff
aside ... we also vacation in the southern states for the month of
February so I dont do anything on it for that month.... I have the
body work to do and paint so that will be time consuming also

Well I wasnt fast enough putting the engine back in so
I'm pulling it back out to try again.... I put it back in
the other day and had it pretty much done.... BUT( the
big BUT) I forgot that I wanted to fix my wipers... one
of the arms popped off the ball on the linkage... well I
cant get to it with the engine in it(I have to pull my firewall
forward, which is a alum diamond plate) so tomorrow I will
pull the engine back out and pull the firewall to correct the
wiper linkage... normally I would said screw it and just use
RainX but I went to the trouble to mount the wiper motor
so when I get the engine out and the firewall out I think I
might make some access panels... I never figured I'd need
to touch that stuff again..... but.. you know how that goes...
damn... the engine went in so easy this time... now I know why

I got lucky today... looking at it I could make a access plate that
goes right to the top of the mid plate cover and a cover near the
drivers fender... I had to use my LITTLE cut off(dremel) to get at
it and it took a few hours but I didnt have to pull the engine and
it gives me access to the wiper linkage... it'll look pretty good but
it'll have a seam(which I didnt really want) but lifes a bitch... should
have it done in a few more hours

The access plate is a great idea. It'll pay off.

I'm thinking about cuting an access plate in the rear of the mustang in order to access the fuel pump. Dropping that tank gets to be a bigger and bigger pain as I get older.

Major win! GLad to hear it - access panels are priceless, especially as Bob states for in tank fuel pump / sender set ups, lots of newer cars have them under the rear seat.
