I think a Clock would be a pretty good addition.
I would install a vacuum gauge.
These gauges can tell you a great deal about what your engine is doing.

I'd say screw the additional guage and add a PEZ dispenser.

comically..when there was none, that is what the ol days did.
I can still go there being carbed.
injection and giant plenums have the tell all in a sensors place.
to be truthful, I still go by ear at an idle...until I messed with the boxer. that can do several different things in every combination through the whole rpm range..and it won't be deciphered easy.
if I had a dollar for.."oh the valve noise, that is cracked head."
or this one is my favorite:
"it is going to throw a rod, replace the engine."
a funny one is when deionizing decides to take place..this is diarhea mode for engines. Not many switch to the anti-camode mode to save its own ass...and by nature.
at least it is clock worked to predict somewhat.

had a torque line of a diesel...because it was one.
I vote vacuum gauge. I got one. it replaced my troublesome fuel pressure gauge. It really helped when the bottom of the plenum in my edelbrock intake cracked and caused me some hard to see issues....
