    room for one gauge

if you had oil, temp, battery, gas..tach and speedo...

but are going to gain an empty spot with enough room for a 2 inch gauge...

    what would it be.

    natural aspirated engine, no nos...carbed.

    vacuum?
    exhaust temp?
    AFR?
    trans temp?

    something unique?

AFR is silly expensive, even find a used wide band.

I settled for oil temp. now to put something together..

I would go with a vaccine gave. I've had them only on a few of my captives from the factory on the right sidevof the dash. It was marked ." economy". It was fun to watch and the more vac you had the better your mileage.

with gas heading into the clouds, that'd be the smart move ^^

/edit - I take it back, if you keep running hotter and hotter plugs, you need an EGT or a metal detector in the exhaust..

I have got a spot for EGT.. no mods.
of course removing EGR, one does not need EGT.
flip me upside down and send me to seattle to disagree.

              the "vaccine gave" good idea.

              I have a 630 mile planned..
              a donated gps.
all set but gas mileage reader.

the engine lets out some peculiar pings before fail... it is never sudden.(I have taken it to thermite fire.)
I guess I skip oil temp gauge and go for vacuum.

AFR. I have a guage problem as in too many, but I'm finding the new LC-1 realy useful.

Alernate idea, get cheap Android tablet, connect to Megasquirt MS2 box and have any guage you want.

I would install a vacuum gauge.

These gauges can tell you a great deal about what your engine is doing.

I'd say screw the additional guage and add a PEZ dispenser.

comically..when there was none, that is what the ol days did.
I can still go there being carbed.
injection and giant plenums have the tell all in a sensors place.

to be truthful, I still go by ear at an idle...until I messed with the boxer. that can do several different things in every combination through the whole rpm range..and it won't be deciphered easy.

if I had a dollar for.."oh the valve noise, that is cracked head."

or this one is my favorite:
"it is going to throw a rod, replace the engine."

a funny one is when deionizing decides to take place..this is diarhea mode for engines. Not many switch to the anti-camode mode to save its own ass...and by nature.
at least it is clock worked to predict somewhat.
