I don't worry about the electronics as much as the mechanical advance mechanisms / shafts / cam gear interface, etc. That's what flew apart in Seth's engine, and others.... I also had a friend recently whipe out a roller cam in a cleveland due to a mismatched timing gear that allowed too much cam end play.
With a mixture of parts suppliers - as most of our engines are - you just can't be too careful - measure everything!

My 5.8 and the 5.0 I took out both had a plate. I don't know if that's been forever on SBFs or if there was date before the plate. No clue on Cleveland motors.

Dan's (other Dan) issue was the mfr of the timing set sent him the wrong cam gear - it was a gear meant for a torrington bearing behind it ---- there was no torrington bearing in the box - as Dan had ordered the standard gear set - the cam gear was in the wrong box basically.
Dan put it together and didn't check the cam end play - which turned out to be over .030" - enough for the cam to walk into the distributor gear too far - and kill both gears, cam and dist.
Dan is getting a new roller cam, AND a new distributor gear.
Another expensive lesson learned.
