hung out at my buddys shop yesterday (no work going on) working on the black car. got half the interior back in. put in a new headliner. didn't use the correct vinyl, using cloth instead, but it's what was in the shop and it still looks good. pulled off the window trim. found a 1" spot in the back window that has rusted all the way through. choice - pull the original window and risk cracking it, then weld in new metal or POR15 the rust and fill the hole. either way, i'll reveal to a buyer what we did. i play fair.

worked on the brown car last night. i'm changing the valve cover gaskets. i am once again becoming disenchanted with GM. i had to remove half the engine to get to the valve covers. the five brackets and 20 bolts that you have to remove to get the a/c compresor out of the way, is nuts

scored big at the Daytona Spring Turkey Run
    1) original exhaust, including mufflers, cat, and chrome tips - $20.00 (for the black car).
    2) shaker and base, with upper seal, (and with history that i can't reveal) - $75.00 (for
    the brown car).
    3) carpet for $20.00 less than catalog price (for the brown car).
    4) power window switch (not available in parts catalog) - $30.00 (for the black car)
    5) console box for $20.00 less than catalog price (for the black car).

only miss was a set of GM wheel center caps for $75.00 for a set of four. a dealer came by the day before and bought all four sets of four from the guy.

but the only reason we wouldn't go with replacing the steel (welding in the steel is nothing), is that we will have to remove the original window and mounting. possible breaking it while pulling it out and putting it back in.

got the valve cover gaskets done and everything reinstalled. it was more work than it needed to be. now i know the way to do it and it will be easier next time. i paint everything that comes off the car, before it goes back on, even if the rest of the engine bay looks bad.

took the day off and headed to my buddies shop to work on the black car (i swear i didn't know it was good friday til around 3:00 pm).
got the interior in (except the console). got the rust spot filled. got the gas tank out (haven't looked inside yet, but the smell coming out of the tank was not good). started to install the $20.00 original exhaust that we got at the rod run last weekend.

came home and started installing the seal to the shaker hood for the brown car. got the headliner material glued on the new plastic headliner board today (thanks to my buddy doug. he also did the interior on the 50'). taking the brown car to doug's shop to cut out the rust and weld in new metal (no, i don't have pinto's skills, so my buddy will help), on Sunday. waiting for carpet samples for the brown car, so i can get the interior back in.

progress is being made slowly but shurly.

    brown car
body work is done. looks pretty good, except the rattlecan paint. kind off looks like camo, but can't afford a paint job yet.
the new carpet came in, so now i can get the interior back together. insurance starts on 5/11/12, so then i can register the car.
window trim is painted and back on. new t top weatherstip is in. trying to decide whether to go ahead and put on the new door weatherstrip now, or what the two years when i can paint the car. the existing stuff is pretty bad.
    black car
got the exhaust on. most of the interior is back in. working on the shifter now, then we can put the console back in. still need to open up the gas tank and see what kind of shape it's in.
