All the VW ones were manual adjustment only....and you adjust each shoe independently. One star wheel for front shoe, one for rear....and on to the next wheel.

Trick is to stomp the brake after you have them adjusted the first time, that centers the shoe and then you adjust the drag all over again. Makes a huge difference.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

Roger that Stiney - I will give it that a try - keep it all assembled - mash the pedal and spin the star wheel through the adjustment slot.

My Torino has four wheel drum stops straight, but in a panic the rears slide real easy I think that is because the prop. valve is 50/50.

I just assembled the front and rear brakes on my Falcon. The front E100 axle is overly complicated auto adjuster setup, compared to the GM's I'm used to. I put all the new parts on that came with the E100 axle; drums, shoes, cylinders, spring hardware. Will have to wait to adjust it all once I plump the lines.
I do it like Stiney mentioned. Bleed the brakes, adjust them close, step hard to center the shoes, then adjust until they just lightly drag the same at each wheel. Then let the auto adjusters keep them adjusted after that.

We will see how things go - 54 is still in storage, I'm still playing catch up after the move.

Falcon goes away for body / paint this weekend.

I'm my own worst enemy - way too many projects have gone through the shop/disaster since I pushed the falcon to the side last fall - finding parts to put the rear axle back together last night proved frustratingly fruitless. I got the outer tie rods roughly centered onto the rack and loosely assembled them to the spindles so it can be steered for pushing. Engine is out and back on a stand - next to the 302 and 260 for Marco's wagon - also in the shop.

We had to pull apart one of the 8.8 CV axles from Greg to get the c clip needed to re-assemble the 8.8 in the falcon - only to realize I couldn't find the caltrac/bracket/ubolts/nuts to assemble the other side.

Frustrating indeed, that was before the trailer that's supposed to be hauling this thing away tomorrow blew a wheel bearing on the way...

Losing parts and hunting them down is a major part of my build time! Sometimes I look at the same places several times before they jump out of hiding and show themselves! Usually they don't show until I give up and buy another!

                      Blame wormholes.

If you wait long enough, the parts will catch up to you (or you will catch up to them) THAT is why they magically reappear.

Need a trailer to borrow John? I'll be close by tomorrow around 10-11 and could drop mine if it would help. As long as I could pick it back up Sunday around 5.

Stiney - thanks a ton for the offer
He got the trailer fixed - bearings, seal and some filing/massaging the spindle and she's road worthy again.

Hopefully the other three are not nearing the end of their lives.
I was about ready to start calling around for a rental - he goterdun.

Fixing the nephews trucks, regular maintenance and front end work on the diesel, and the pedal car all pushed the falcon stuff off to the side - now I have the frustrating task of working my way back through all that to find what I've miss placed.

I don't think I'll ever catch up unless I give up sleep or clone myself.

I'm determined to not let the new shop turn into what the current shop has - but it's already well on it's way to a disaster area thanks to the move!

Next week we're getting my folks from Florida back home to the Chicago area - then I'm taking Dad to his 60th reunion, so I'll be "off the grid" for a while.

Sometimes you need someone else to help you look. I think our minds subconciously assume that we've looked in a certain place and so we just have a blind eye. Twice, this last month, I've had a buddy over helping me. I've casually mentioned that I need to find a certain part. Within a couple of minutes they found it in places that I thought I'd looked.

Either that or I'm just getting daft.
                          I'm still learning

Bob that's very true - especially when other folks are helping you work, or working on other stuff in the same space.

Sometimes you have to put of the work - and just take time to clean up and put stuff away - I need to do more of that - I know it will save time in the long run, but there never seems to be the time in the first place.

My tools and parts also operate under quantum mechanic physics. You cannot be certain where the part or tool is until it is in hand.

Yea - that's especially true when you have some tools in at least three places at once.
I'm almost afraid of getting all my stuff to one location - then I will see just how much I've accumulated over the years, I might have a stroke.
