So a pinned cross bar, with pinned "x" braces under it - would be stronger than a cross bar alone?

I see most if not all "8 point" bar kits have short triangulated bars from the main hoop inward toward the trans tunnel under the horizontal bar the 5 point belts are traditionally connected to - that BBR gets ulcers over passing tech ...
a few pins or gr8 bolts into the horizontal and a larger x from side to side would surely be stronger than a single welded horizontal bar??

I don't like the idea of a pinned cross bar. If you've got a 5-point harness (and I think you should) then the shoulder harnesses are going to mount to it, and it will also brace the seat back, so that's a critical part in an accident. If that bar comes loose because the pins sheared then you're basically unrestrained. I'd be worried about the forces you would impart to the bar and those pins in a front or rear impact, and the potential for a side impact to also shear those pins. A welded bar might bend or deform a bit, but it shouldn't come loose ever unless the weld's no good.

My Dart's got a 6-point bar, it's a bit of a pain to get in and out, and the 5-point harness isn't exactly comfy either, but that's racing. I try and avoid having anybody in the back unless it's Dream Cruise time and we're doing 5 mph. There's just too much steel tubing back there for someone to whack their head on in any kind of accident, and with no helmet, that would be bad news.

If you don't already have an NHRA rule book, you should really get one and study it well, because getting bounced out of Drag Week for failing tech would really suck, but getting hurt would be way worse.

Yup - it aint gonna be fun - but worthwhile life changes rarely are.
This will be IT for us - I've already told Rhonda they'll likely drag my corpse off this property. It's about a 9 out of 10 as far as what we've been looking for, and what we've been looking for is rare - so - given the market - it was time to jump on it before properties like this one are out of our reach again (like 8 years ago when we bought the current place that we'll rent for a while since we're upside down on it).

The Lovely Donna and I moved 7 times during our first 5 years of marriage. We then settled down and have only moved twice in the last 20.

I hoping they take me out on a gurney before I move again.

I feel for you. 7 years ago we had a kitchen fire and were out of our house 9 months. I had to move all the crap out of the house for repairs, then all the new crap we aquired while living in our townhouse rental. Then move all the crap back into our house after it was fixed. We're in the process of moving to PA full time from NJ. I've been tossing a lot of crap!

I think the worst I've seen was the couple we bought our PA house from. They built the house in '68. They had pictures all over, the house had so much miss match furniture it looked like a use furniture store. She had more shoes then Amelda Marcos. They never threw anything out. All the paper cut out their grown kids made while they were in elementary school, they saved and took. Every can of canned food, every package of frozen food, I mean they took everything they ever saved. He had a friend drop off a 53' trailer and he filled it! He even had the freezer full of food in the trailer with an extension cord running to the house. They moved from PA to SC. The day they left, they said they left me a partial box of ice cream bar because they had no place to pack them! Unbelievable. And we were kind enough to let them stay in the house 10 weeks after the closing. It took him from February to end of June to pack!

new shop pictures will be forthcoming after the house is ours - the sellers are three daughters, the parents passed away - they have not been easy to deal with. We are letting them retain use of the shop for 3 weeks after closing to help them organize and get stuff moved as two of the three live out of state - not sure why they couldn't get it done in the month of january - but - the negotiations and mortgage process have been such a giant pain in the hiney - I relented on the 3 week request.

we've been working on our house getting it more "tenant friendly" some upgrades to the upstairs bathrooms, some paint work, etc.
there will undoubtedly be more paint work after the move - one thing I hate about our current house is the narrow hallways and stairs.

We will be hiring a moving company to take care of the big stuff - I'm not doing it and not asking my friends to help - there will be enough little stuff to deal with ourselves, a friend has offered the use of his enclosed bike trailer - with a nice low ramp door - I'll be using that allot in February.

I promise the new shop will not end up like the old one. One thing I'm going to do before moving in is put a fresh coat of satin/semigloss white on the walls - they're pretty dingy right now. I'm very thankful that this barn doesn't seem to have the moisture problems my current barn has - so - hopefully machined steel surfaces will not rust as quickly as they do in the current place - even with oil on them.

When I bought my new place last summer I insisted we close ASAP even though the seller had tons of junk in the barn and back forty. I promised him two to three weeks grace after closing before a rental clause would start to move out. Didn't bother me really since August and September for me were busy busy between Bonneville, Drag Week and on goings at work. The guy was moved out over two weeks before I started to move in, and I only had to move 2.5 miles across town =P

I too am over moving. I have too much friggin CRAP! lol.
                              Escaped on a technicality.

the best thing about the timing of this is that I don't have to move my shop any time soon.

The shop property will stay as is for at least two more years while the tenants in that house stay out their lease, I hope they will renew - they've been fantastic to deal with.

What this means is that I will have some time to plan out the move into the new shop, and bring things over by project or however I choose.

I can also use the old shop for storage in the meantime.

The killer is the new shop is only a 10ft 6in ceiling height - so until I have enough saved up to build an addition - the 2 post lift will stay at the old shop.
