While replacing your 9 dollar grinder, pick up a 15 amp router speed controller. It will slow your brushed grinder down. I use one on the die grinder when playing with cast iron. Saves carbide bits that cost more than the grinder.

Dewalt side grinders (Home Depot carries them) aren't that expensive... mine is at least 5 years old

I used to buy my metal-cutting blades for my bandsaw at HF. I used 10 in the 1st year I had it. I broke a blade, and needed a new blade immediately so I bought one at Home Depot (a lot closer to home) that cost 3x the HF blade. It's still on the bandsaw, that was 4 years ago when I bought it.

      I buy quality -
      Electric tools
      abrasives
      cutting blades

      I buy at HF
      air grinders
      paint guns for primer
      toolboxes

to me it's a matter of economy. If I can buy the cheaper tool and get the use I need out of it - that's where I go.... otherwise, where my wallet's health will be impacted; quality every time.

John, your floor pan photos remind me of the shoes I was in when doing the pans in my Ranchero. Your's looks like a nicer job though. Just FYI, when I painted the floor in the Ranchero, I used some semi gloss Rustoleum black in a can. Applied with a brush to get paint in the corners and a 4" foam roller to get all the flat areas. Painted it this way top and bottom and came out decent. There was a bit of orange peel to it, but who cares? It was covered by carpet or under the car. Were I to do it over again, I would have put some hardner in the paint. Scraped a little too easy, but just as easy to touch up.

John I to use rust-o-leum paint and brushed it on,but I put and little lacquer thinner in mine it thins it out a little, but it is a good hardener also, but only put it in what you can use at that time it holds up real well and looks great under carpet.

Thanks guys - I agree SBG - I never buy anything that is supposed to be hardened from HF - and no abrasives, or wire wheels.

I have a ryobi grinder I bought at HD a few years back when working on the boat house and docks - I've kept it at home - brought it to the shop last night - we'll see how long it lasts.

I painted the inside of the floors last night with a brush and POR15 - I had an open can from a bit of rust repair I did on my brothers mini van and figured I'd best use it before it turned into a hockey puck. I put it on with HF chip brush and threw the brush away - only used about 1/4 quart. I will probably clean up the remainder of the wheel wells were I did the mini tub work and get those covered with POR as well. The engine compartment I'd like to spray - as well as the underside of the floors - brushing all that over head would be a major PITA.

Ladies and Gentleman - WE HAVE A TITLE!

                YAHOO!

Now to get plates and insurance, since I already have haggerty on the '54 and mach (project car storage) should I go with them for the falcon? I hope to use a 62 michigan plate on it (limited use - registration is like every 7 years)

Major hurdle conquering! That has to feel good.

I have nothing to add on the insurance, but a friend's brother was recently busted for running historical Ohio plates on his daily driver, those are restricted to parade or show travel only.

Really dumb move on his part, but not suprising.

Just read the restrictions carefully and make sure its a fit for what driving it will get. I'm sure you've done your homework though.

Good point - maybe the 62 plate isn't such a good idea - I will look into it - I certainly plan on driving this thing to work on nice days

I run Ohio Historical plates on my Pinto and I drive it everywhere not as a daily driver, but it has been to work with me at least 4 times a week on many of times if your out actting crazy or someone does'nt call and report you. You well not have a problem, but that is also in Dayton,Ohio too and I could just be lucky.

Check with the DMV... here in Iowa, we are allowed to run an older plate and have to carry the regular plate and registration in the vehicle... not sure how other states do it...

Pinion angle is set - finally - I put it on the ground with 300lb in the trunk, set it to 2* tacked it and raised it up to finish the welding on the perches - the angle grew to 4* at full droop (shocks not in place)

If it aint right, they make wedges.

John here in Michigan we can use historical plates on our toys and if I remember correctly we are allowed 1500 miles a year for regular driving.
I am running historical plates on my camaro . If you go with the 62 plate it is good for as long as you own the car. My historical plate was 30.00 for ten years! I drive the car every weekend and never have trouble.
