Nice fab work. Looks like a full frame car now.
62 Falcon - $5k challenge, how will it rise from the ranger's ashes?

Nice work on the sub frames. With the 50 oz balancer, that should make it easy to run a serpentine belt.TomOverdrive is overrated

I confirmed with the crank shop - yes - 50oz balancer - some drilling on the crank counterweights - 28oz flex plate - off the shelf part - $40, got one from the transmission shop.
So - now I have what I need to assemble the short block and check the pushrod length, just need the time.
I may change to serpentine since I have some 5.0 stuff left over - I ran a V belt on the ranger, have to make that choice before I get the AC kit. There's always something new to learn.Comment

In case any of you were wondering - the stomach flu or whatever this hell is I'm contaminated with - is no fun at all.

progress on the falcon so far this week=0
Matt and I did take a few minutes to measure up the stock Mustang2 crossmember and the front sub frames on the faon - the stock crossmember needs to be cut and extended wider to meet up with the outside of the falcon rails. I will likely use a piece of square tubing and cut out most if not all of the stock sheet metal cross member.
Here's a question for all you, I was able to do a bit of front end observation at the power tour stops :
Stock Mustang 2 has the steering rack in front of the cross member, and uses a front sump pan like typical 60's Fords.
I found a falcon with a mustang 2 front end kit (all tubular stuff) it also has the rack in front of the cross member, but runs a dual sump 5.0 era oil pan.... indicating the engine is several inches further back in the swap than in the Mustang2 as designed.
Can I use M2 motor mounts?
Will a boss302 windage tray fit under a dual sump pan / pickup? THat is the next questionThere's always something new to learn.Comment

You're just going to have to put the suspension in, mock up the engine/oil pan and then figure out what you need to do.
I've have put things together that were supposed to fit, they rarely do. Expect to need to section the pan to fit.I'm still learningComment

Yup - I hope to use engine side mounts that I already have, but I'm not at against making new frame side mounts especially if they will allow the engine to sit a bit further back.
Thankfully I have both pans - and I can modify either if needed, they don't owe me anything and are cheap to replace if I screw up.
Have a great weekend everybody. There's always something new to learn.Comment

John when I built my Pinto I made my own tower mounts and used a set of 70 ford truck motor mounts that way I could mount my engine lower and further back to make more room for the radiator and so I would'nt have to use a hood scoop. I also used a front sump pan it made it easier to change motor locations with out pan interferance and a Pinto is basiclly a mustang ll.Greg & Mendy Dayton, Ohio 2007LH 2008LH 2010LH 2011LH 2012 1st 2 stops 2013LH 2015 1st 2 stops2016LH 2017 first and last stops . 2018 LH ("It's better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool!! Greg - I'll have to look up those ford truck mounts. Right now I have the typical 60s-70s passenger car mounts on the engine - they use long bolts front to back.
I got the 302 block on the engine stand and started cleaning it up - still need to give it a serious simple green and garden hose clean up, then whipe it down with WD40 and start the assembly. The crank is still bagged from the machine shop sitting on the bench.
Sure is hard to get any work done with a 2.5 year old running around. There's always something new to learn.Comment
