This car is amazingly rust free - I think that's more due to the fact that the dealer tag on the taillight panel is Florida - and it sat in an Indiana garage unmoved for a couple decades or so.
I picked up the cold/flu that Lee had and a bunch of folks at work have been trading around - spent saturday and sunday afternoon in bed.
Friday I picked up more steel - 24ft of 3/4x3/4 square tube .085 wall for the rocker reinforcements and "triangulation" to the sub frames, they can bend and sheer plate larger than I need for the front spring mounts - so - I will take some measurements and have them bend 1/8" plate in a U shape a couple feet long, then I can cut it in half and make the two mounts from it.
For the rear - if I can make room - I will put two cross members between the rear frame rails - one in front of, one behind the fuel tank opening in the trunk floor. Between those two I will put two pieces of tube 2x3? parallel to the rear frame rails. That will form the new location for the rear shackles, and go a long way to strengthening the back part of the frame - and give a bit of additional safety to the trunk floor mounted fuel tank - if it be the stocker or a fuel cell - it's going in the same spot.
Yes SBG - for a phenomenal price in a deal through Matt - M2 it will be - brand new flaming river manual rack, 11" brakes, calipers, springs, tie rods, and stock M2 upper and lower c-arms and cross member blasted and primed for less than I could have finished up the stock front end for.
This car aint gonna be done for power tour Fordman. There's always something new to learn.Comment

Sounds like the plan is coming together!
Sucks on the flu - I hope you don't get the cough that's been around here. I'm so sick of coughing, a side effect from it is I think I'm developing a 6-pack again from the constant coughing! We've all been fighting it for over a month now, that and having crud in the ears makes it feel like we've just been swimming.
Anyway, hope you don't get that version up there.

Thanks Greg - with a toddler and a wife that travels frequently - I've got to take advantage of the times I have free to work on the old crate.
Last night was one of those times. I've never installed a full floor section in a car before, THIS is the type of stuff I want to get experience doing on this car before tackling the 69mach1 that has to be "done right". The differences between the falcon and early mustang floors are apparent looking at this picture, there was a lot of cutting and hammering, and it still doesn't fit that well - but when the carpet is down, nobody will care! The miller 180 is earning it's keep for sure. It's tough to get pretty welds on old dirty metal even after cleaning. This floor is about 80% welded in, I will leave the trans tunnel side un finished until I figure out how much I need to modify the tunnel to make the AOD fit.

I look at it this way it only has to please you it's your project and the more you do it the better it gets and the more tricks you will learn. I remember the first set of floor pans I repaired was with street signs and pop-rievets,boy have I come a long way since then.

Thanks - I'm going to use the portion of floor pan I cut out to make the patches to fill the holes stamped into the mustang floors. I still need to mock up the engine / trans to see where the trans tunnel mods will be required to make the AOD fit - and not be a total PITA to get in and out.
Then the minitub, spring relocation, and mustang 2 front.... I can't wait to get this thing on it's wheels.
A guy at work wants the clevo out of the ranger - he has like new weld wheels that are 15x8 with 5" backspacing - those might be just the ticket to get a 9" slick under this car. There's always something new to learn.Comment
