I just want some decent tools that arent way overpriced. We dont have any control over where the stuff is manufactured, the Perfect Circle machining plant I worked in was packed up and shipped to Mexico. Dana lost some customers from the crappy product they made, and everyone in the states lost their job.
That being said, far too many of the people I worked with had the attitude, we have to rework it anyway, why bother checking it? So they made scrap, lots and lots of scrap. Some of them didnt care if they made bad parts at all, but they sure bitched when we didnt get a bonus. They couldnt make the connection that the cost of scrap was costing them bonus money. I could see where it was going when they started pulling the most profitable lines and sending them to other plants. I left and went back in the military. The plant closed a year after I left.
People need to have an "I give a shit" attitude and do quality work, problem is most of them are like my 14 year old and my ex wife. They want everything for nothing.Comment

I love my Craftsman tools... My brother was a professional mechanic with a snap-on box stuffed with chrome goodness. I used to love to drool over those tools. But he lived in a garage and ate mac an cheese so he could make the payments (no shit). I have had good performance from my Craftsman stuff. Not great, but good. Every time I've had an issue, I've been able to drive a couple miles to the store and get an old for new exchange. usually no hassle. but its all probably made overseas now. still says craftsman on the handle though.Mike in Southwest OhioComment

I'm a fan of Craftsman too. But, I wonder about their future. I recently exchanged a broken 1/2" drive ratchet, and the quality is less than impressive on the new one. I wonder if it'll last half as long as the one I gave themOriginally posted by oldsman496 View PostI love my Craftsman tools... I wonder if they will let you specify which ratchet you get. Some of their off the shelf single serve ratchets blow before you get them loaded up the first time. Some of the kit ratchets are pretty decent. It's a crapshoot. My first 1/2 got buried in mud working on a fence and sort of left there over the winter (thanks Dad). I found it in the spring, pulled it apart and cleaned it all up, works good and still have it. I wouldn't trade it for the "replacement"Originally posted by groucho View PostI'm a fan of Craftsman too. But, I wonder about their future. First off, I'm not your bro. Second, you have yet to answer the question. It is easy to say the words buy American. It is even easier to post on the internet buy American. HOW do you do it and WHAT do you buy that is made in the USA? I'm happy with both my American and import tools... What if, a company manufactures their tools all over Europe. They make a better tool than any of the so called American companies that really manufacture in China and Taiwan. But support NASCAR and the like... So which is better? Who actually hires more American workers to support their product line? How is there service? They cost more, but they give you more... So which do you buy?Originally posted by SpiderGearsMan View Postlook bro , you buy high quality tools like snap , they are top quality and ...get this , it's the good part...THEY COST MORE !!Comment
