If your going flat tappet use some break in springs, and the oils you use can help tons both for break in and on the road. I use the Joe Gibbs break in oil.

That's fine Bob, when the time comes I'll make a totally reasonable suggestion that totally derails your project
like putting that "extra" V-6 in your mustang
That said, I've had interest before in my building headers, and I'm certain I'll build several turbo headers rather than just one set and sell them.... be a nice side project to fund some of these derailments.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

If you do send them out to someone with a CNC mandrel bender then it just takes a call and add the flanges ChaChing2007 SBN/A Drag Week Winner & First only SBN/A Car in the 9's Till 2012

Good idea first step is flanges. I've bought flanges, but I know I can have them made that will be far better suited to the purpose - so probably I'll put those up for sale first.Originally posted by JeffMcKC View PostIf you do send them out to someone with a CNC mandrel bender then it just takes a call and add the flanges ChaChingDoing it all wrong since 1966Comment

SBG, he's right, and the cool thing is if you want to change cams all you have to do is by a cam, everything else is reusable........Originally posted by Stich496 View PostI know your "having a hard time getting around " that 1000 buck door prize..
but whats it gonna cost you if you have to rebuild it.. because the cam went flat..
new bearings, grind crank, new pistons if the metal flake gets inbeadded in the skirts..
gaskets, seals and a 2nd cam and lifter.. and the labor..
kinda like, there is never enough money to do it right the first time but always enough to do it twice..
good luck with it.. and cross thy fingers if you go flat tapComment

I wasn't saying he's wrong... I'm saying my checking account is screaming with two builds... maybe if someone needed a nice project Studebaker.... or if the guy in Australia decides he needs the motor that's in the car.Originally posted by TC View PostSBG, he's right, and the cool thing is if you want to change cams all you have to do is by a cam, everything else is reusable........Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

there are some really nice people in the automotive world....
so this is what I'll order tomorrow
"If you are doing a roller cam then we can go 218/218 duration with more lift.
The lobe lift can .325 for a .520 valve lift.
The lobe center at 114 degrees"
it'll be hydraulic - although I'm still not convinced that current solid roller lifters wouldn't be better. Also will be doing something about getting the heads to seal right (studs)..... good thing Summit has such a great return policy.Last edited by SuperBuickGuy; November 6, 2011, 09:45 PM.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

You're up late, Mark...
The cam's going to be custom anyway (big surprise, not) because of what I want from the motor. Be interesting to see how it works... revised hp figure is 700.
It blows me away that I can say that number so matter-of-factly...Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

can't sleep have flu on two meds aintbotics and a steriod thing pills. not a good time to be boarderline phomia
like there is ever a good time..
matter of factly,, cause they've already built it.. or one so close they taste the same..
solids die climb'n the ramps at start up. with no oil at the wheel/roller . 300+ lbs pushing on a part with no lub. bad jew jew
I had 50k on one but I pre oiled before start up.. (pressurized acumulator)Last edited by Stich496; November 6, 2011, 10:58 PM.Comment

Who was it here that was looking for a partner with a water cooled checkbook? The roller cost only hurts for a little bit, but man does it hurt the first time.
It's kind of funny that we bitch about 1000.00 cam setups - the brain of the engine ... I think this may be a leftover from Super Shops 49.99 Erson Cams. We got spoiled with that and flat tappet friendly oil. Modern roller profiles are awesomely fast comparatively speaking, so it's not just the anti-wipe that attracts me to them. Wish they were 49.99 at Super Shops though... and I wish I would have bought the mountain of Holleys they always had for 99.00Last edited by Beagle; November 7, 2011, 04:25 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

all things being equal, I was going to use the same valve springs - but I certainly see your point.Originally posted by Stich496 View Postcan't sleep have flu on two meds aintbotics and a steriod thing pills. not a good time to be boarderline phomia
