I think you are right about the drive. More fun in the car, similar cost if all goes well, but if things go sideways...

I was pretty happy with the collapsable trailer we built for this year as it gave us a good combination of spares felxibility and theoretical ease of set-up and take down at each track. But I was under-prepared, the trailer wasn't even finished when we got there and it bit us in the ass.

At least I have the trailer now and I won't have all those expenses again.

I’ll bet many DragWeek participants are like me, keep gas, meals & hotel receipts but never add them up (if we don’t know how much DragWeek cost, how could the wife ever find out?) LOL.

I did keep track of mpg; driving from SoCal to Topeka I purchased 116 gallons which worked out to a little over 14.5 mpg. Track to track mpg figures became fractured as we were buying race gas at the tracks and our record keeping was not keeping up.

For me it was the best entertainment event I invested in all year – my son was with me all week and we both agreed to put DW on our calendar for 2012. Invest in DW, you will never regret it.

We brought 4 people and 3 entries, If you split the Motel 4 ways, and then devour the continental b-fast, you make out good!
I spent 419.00 on driving fuel during the event, and 132.00 on race gas.

I drove my rig to Oklahoma and visited family in June, I'm flying back for t-giving, and then I'll bring it back. I pre-entered, and pre-paid for the rooms online, By doing these things it allowed me to spread the costs over 4 or 5 months instead of trying to crack that nut all at one time.

Cost me my job. My boss just got back in town this week and fired me first thing monday morning for taking time off for drag week. Just happens to be one of those times where asking for forgivness instead of permission just did'nt work out. I had been planning for drag week for over a year so their was no way in hell I was going to miss it. I spent right at $2,000 for the week but I had two extra nights in hotels driving to and from florida. Would have spent alot more if I went out with Jake.

Sorry to hear that Jason.You took the gamble and who knows you might be the winner in the long run I hope.That said make sure"Condition of employment" at your next job is that you haveDragWeek off in 2012.Thats the only way Iwas able to go this year.If your boss just got back and found out he doesnt seem like much of a boss to me.Just saying.Good luck man.
