drag week changes your point of view...

for years ive done nothing but old car stuff... mostly vintage racing/car shows the site i go to most is 64 earlier only.. thats how i met my best friend ron, the guy that rode with me...
he has a 59 elco and 64 corvair van ,,neither run ,and they never get worked on...
a few years ago we lost a close friend ,he was like a father to ron.. and ron took it pretty hard.. this was when ron stopped working on his junk... he keeps his wifes 59 chevy biscayne running and kept going to shows and drag races..but he had no desire to work on his own..the elco is a older custom, has a 348 with 3 deuces, lowered lots of little details.. the vans stock,,not much you can say positive about it other than it being in good shape...
by mid trip all he talked about was getting home to work on the elco... at last some fire in his belly!! so far he has talked about taking it on DW in daily driver, then talked about putting v8 mid engine in the van.. my phone has blown up .... lastnight he started rebuilding the frontend in his wifes car so he could move onto his..(had to finish it first).this was the wake up call he needed...
we talked about how much fun it was seeing all the different cars and different ideas..he is hooked ... i can tell the dark cloud of funk has lifted...

That's awesome. Sometimes it's a little bit of doing is just the kick in the pants needed to get going.
      Escaped on a technicality.

Good to hear.Sometimes thats what it takes. My brother is seriously thinking about getting his 76T/A that he bought new that with 300k on it back into shape. He made a comment that no matter what class or brand of car or class everyone that showed up the next day got a thumbs up.Its a cult I tell you. LOL

That is AWESOME news!!!! So glad to hear it got him back into it. My uncle as well went home and attacked his '56 post and has already committed to coming back with me next year. Amazing what a week with fellow gearheads/ new friends will do.

I also agree with the non-denominational car loving, there were a ton of cool cars out there this year as always. Can't wait the see the elco added to the clan
