First, my dog story: unavailability of a dog sitter forced me to have to bring my BUCK WILD weimaraner to Drag Week. I was dreading this trip, my dog is so strong he can break even the strongest leashes and "taking him for a walk" is similar to "full body workout at the gym"
The first day at Doc McEntire's, he had to be chained up, barked at everyone, was generally a pain in the arse. Day two, at KCIR, he wanted to stay in the car all day so I parked it in the shade. Just no fun at all.
Day three, at Topeka, Daphne took him for a walk and for whatever reason he returned a complete changed dog!!! For the rest of the day, we left him OFF the leash or chain, he stayed right with us and was polite to (almost) everyone (hint: DO NOT REACH INTO MY VEHICLE WITH DOG INSIDE! sorry, Daphne). By the time day 4 was over, my pain in the ass dog went to being the most obedient and loyal animal I ever owned. Amazing!!! He even stayed by my side at the staging lanes and starting area - I still can't believe the transformation, many of my friends can tell you what a pain in the ass T-Rex can be!
Second, my People story. Two of my friends who raced at Bonneville, but have since retired, came to see the Topeka portion of Drag Week. They're supposed to be RETIRED from racing: at the end of the day, I overheard both of them bench racing about putting together a Gasser class car for next year! Gary Hart and Doc Collison both refuse to grow old!!! I could tell Gary might be serious about this gasser deal. He used to run a gasser Willys at match race events all over the country. Anyways, I thought it was pretty cool to see their interest in the event.
