That much oil I think would point to an angle mis-match between the heads and intake.

Too much oil to be a bad valveguide... and even if a few valveguides went bad, at least SOME would still be okay.

The cruddy valves is probably just the oil getting cooked on... Personally, I'd pop the heads off, grab the valvespring compressor, and clean the hell outta everything.

Then dry assemble it, and check for weird gaps at the front/rear of the intake-to-head mating surface.

    They mighta milled 'em cockeyed.

Or been half-cockeyed when they did the milling!
Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

I still dont get why that one cylinder was lean though. Cockeyed might have been the problem ! Ive seen it before.

        Damned.

Try setting the intake in place without gaskets and take a good look at the gaps - it may be as simple as having the horizontal surface of the front and back of the intake milled down to return the head sealing surfaces to parallel.

If that's the case, I don't think I'd go to the trouble of pulling the heads again - get the intake milled, re assemble, and go run the hell out of it - maybe put some sea foam / mmo / etc in the tank for good measure - with any luck - you'll see all that coked up junk from the back of the valves go out the tail pipes! ; )
There's always something new to learn.

I second the Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO)......give the oil a dose, give the tank a dose..... I'd say give yourself a dose but its not THAT good!

          Seriously, that stuff works wonders.

ah,ha!!, I'll take it you had the heads milled and NOT THE INTAKE.. MISTAKE #1 .
YES 75% OF THE TIME YOU CAN SQUEAK BY without milling the intake..
but mr murphy has joined your party..
            good luck..

I put the intake on with no gaskets, just some balls of modeling clay around the ports and at the ends and bolted on the intake it squashed it all evenly and flat I dont have anything to measure at that thickness but it looked pretty even. If I go get the intake milled
what do I tell the machinist as far as how much to mill it?

How thick was the clay when it was squashed?

Thinner than the gasket? Or thicker?

Even if the gasket is evenly squashed, there may not be enough clamping force if the gap is too great...

Did it miss the post on how much/little valveguide wear there is? Could be part of it...
