yep, tried atleast 5 times with the New autozone dipstick tube, found the old one in the barn, liked how it was made, shortened the dipstick to fit, installed, very slow leak but its constant. Someone mentioned before that later model th350 took a grommet, any clue what years?Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

.79 and .29 respectively... the bottom one should work. It won't even be close if it's missing the top part and needs it. The tube will fwap around in the hole.
Good to hear on the Holley!Last edited by Beagle; November 18, 2012, 04:53 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

The top is bolted up, it cant move. The grommet on fits 79 and later dipsticks, which i guess i'll need to find. TCI makes one that locks and takes the grommet. Dad says I can F up anythingSi vis pacem, para bellumComment

my dad says the same thing - "Boy, you could fuk up a bowling ball in a sand box" so I respond accordingly and say "I learned it from you dad"
Does the tube you have already have the o-ring on it? Try a new o-ring? It's .29 cents... ;)Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I've put new o-rings on them. I'm gonna try again with this new tube. It fits alot better than the aftermarket one, still $31 shipped and I can have a locking grommet one. Picked up another set of plugs today. They were black from the carb problems in the beginning.Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

dipstick is sealed. servo cover is leaking, everything is unbolted to where i can get to it, can push it in easily, cant get the ring out yet,Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

This thing has been fighting you, man! It will make it that much sweeter when you get to cruise it around.
When you have that much DIY in your project, it feels that much better when you drive it around and people compliment you on it. (not that I've ever rebuilt a transmission... just talking about how intimate we get with our cars as we build them.)Comment

Alot of it is my own fault. It's still fighting me though. The snap ring is out and I need an o-ring, on thanksgiving. There's a little hole on the back side of the tranny case that a 2.5 allen wrench will fit right through and pop the snap ring out effortlessly.
I just want to drive it. I paid $1200 for it and spent $90 on tires and drove it for a year and a half without doing nothing, I bet I still have less than $2500 in it.Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

I once 'stressed' a transmission dipstick tube when putting an engine back into the car when the engine tagged it. Same deal it leaked like crazy right at the trans. Tried three different o-rings, tried some black RTV around the o-ring, etc. Then I was looking at it closely and noticed just a hair line crack in the tube. It was small, but it sure leaked. I overlooked that crack a half dozen times before I noticed it. Just some food for thought if you think you may of put some pressure on the dipstick tube when either installing the engine or transmission.
**Edit** Never mind you got it fixed. I JB Welded mine.Last edited by TheSilverBuick; November 22, 2012, 01:34 PM.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

I think its all back together and holding fluid.
Need more trans fluid and still have open headers. Need to make hangers for the exhaust.Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

So I drove it 5 miles tonight, slow round 55, no leaks, has a miss at low rpm, think a plug wire is completely done, I punch it, 4 barrels open, blows one muffler off. Guess the clamp wasn't tight, I'm still happy.
So what's a good plug sets to run with headers, or easy to do, cut to fit?Si vis pacem, para bellumComment

I've had good luck with the Taylor wires on my Chevelle - but my buddy has the crimping pliers made for that. Not sure how well they'd turn out without the proper crimping tool.
There was a plug wire thread a few months back - but I don't remember what the popular choice was. (it wasn't Taylor)
After getting them dirty, a rag wet with wd-40 is a good plug wire cleaner. (probably true for any plug wire)
Oh yeah, congrats on the mostly successful trip!
The car looks really good, too!Last edited by yellomalibu; December 1, 2012, 04:46 PM.Comment
