I've heard nothing but good things. This stuff is the poor man's Dynamat so we'll see how it works out. It also shows I'm capable of learning...my wife refuses to ride in the El Camino because of the racket so the sound deadener is a concession to future years of wedded bliss!

Are you double flaring your ends? (reccomended)
Altho for derby cars we can get away with partially flaring then the seats will take it the rest of the way
Good brand flare tools do make a difference.. I have seen one guy do them effortlessly.. I mean very effortlessly! .. Then I used his tool and mine were sure ugly.. Some held, some didnt.. We work most of the time 7-8 miles from town..
But for our street driven cars/trucks.. We always double flare..

Stainless is very hard to work.. And I split them more than I succeed! Operator disorder!

Edit: GOOD WORK..I also await FE installation time!

I just found that mastercool flaring set (just for double flares not all the other stuff) for $54 shipped and bought it - I have to run all the brake and fuel lines on the falcon and I'm tired of messing with the cheap flaring kits I have that don't work well - hopefully this one will deliver.

I've had great luck with mine. Sometimes I have to flare a line outside of the car, then bend and fit it because I don't have enough room to get the tool on; but getting a perfect flare every time is worth that little inconvenience.

I'll report back in the falcon project thread - I'll start updating it more now that the car is back home and I have a month to finish it for dragweek.

Yup, double flared everything that I had to change, either for better fit or because Classic Tube had the wrong size fitting at the end of the line -- that was the case twice, which kind of surprised me. Ultimately, the key to success with stainless seemed to be having an absolutely square end on the tube and a little dab of lubrication on the flaring adapter. Although it wasn't always a guarantee.

It amazes me just how knowledgeable she's become. not to mention what a good eye she has for 'before' and 'after' changes and how much car sense she has accumulated. I was originally contemplating fiberglass bumpers from Crites; that was nixed with the announcement that only chrome would be good enough. She also insisted that only an idiot would put a tired old FE back in, that as long as it was out it had better be freshened by someone who knew what they were doing (i.e., don't be doing this in the garage and effing it up). I consider myself very lucky...she even likes hanging out at the drag strip as long as we bring a few comforts from home.

that's greatness! Kind of a rare woman you are with, keep her happy if ya can! Which brings up my next point, what kind of car are you going to build for you? haha. Those were neat cars, very easy to drive. She's gonna come home with the groceries and a 'vette kill story, you'll have to get your own car Michael. lol.

2013 update 14 - more sound deadener and back seat

Finished installing sound dampening material yesterday. I'd been working away at this for a couple of hours each evening Mon-Thurs and then finally got it done Sat morning. Were I less anal retentive I would have just laid the sheets in and jammed them down, but instead it was a matter of cutting to fit all the compound curves and irregular shapes. Sometimes wonder why I bother? Once the carpet is in no one will ever know, but there it is, a wonky gene at work or something (and just like a little kid, I do love to cut and paste!!!).

Have some visitors coming next week so it was suggested that the seats need to be stored some place other than the spare bedroom. I've taken the front buckets out to have some split seams repaired and -- for the time being -- reinstalled the back seat in the car. I've cleaned it four times, the last go-around with whitewall tire cleaner, and I think its come up quite nicely -- nice enough that I'm going to stick with the old seats. It's possible to get new upholstery but only in Fairlane or Mustang patterns, I haven't found anything for Comets or Cyclones. And I'm sure the cost would be eye-watering so I'm really happy to stay with the well-worn but clean originals. For those who may be wondering, the color is 'Parchment' and not white, sort of a creamy off-white. I think they'll look OK with black carpet, dash and package shelf, and body-color accents on the doors and dash.

You may well be right. I must admit, after seeing what others are doing with old trucks -- most recently Squirrel's magic with the 57 Suburban -- I've kind of got a 1950s or early-60s truck thing percolating away in the back of my head. But the rules in this relationship are one car project at a time...and it's something I'm not going to push back on.

nice color on the back seat. It should look great.

I'm sure she'll let you visit it every other weekend.
