HotRod makes 1200+hp with a stock 4.8l LS motor

Funny thing is they thought it was a 5.3 until after they got it off the dyno, then they pulled the pan and ran the crank number and realized it was a 4.8...... They wanted to see how much HP a stock LS motor could take, they did over 60 pulls(with most being over 1000hp) and pumped 26lbs of boost into the motor. The only other things they did was have the heads ported, installed a FAST intake with 75lb/hr injectors and installed a cam, but the short block was all stock.......And just think NO Forged Internals!!!!!!

Check it out, it's in the new HotRod......

the LS series is probably one of the most amazing engines out there

i been joking around that if the 4.6 ever lets go in the merc i will put in a 4.8L LS and 4L60 trans. i can get both dirt cheap

This is why I love these stories. They make more power with less money than I just spent on cylinder heads.

                Somebody shoot me please.

I just read it today, but missed how much they spent on the turbos, waste gate, blow off valve, and head porting. Amazing power and boost on on a factory block, and especially, hyperuetic pistons.

From what I read in CC, using China made turbos work, but it's safer to use good quality waste gates and blow off valve.

Is this finally on the newsstands?

So much for the clowns who didn't believe the turbo 5.3 Fairmont was making 900hp. LMAO

Yep. Bone stock... with ported heads, $$$ intake, and a cam.

                        HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yes, totally stock.

I'll probably have to pick that one up to see if it had stock valvesprings or some of the 300.00 replacement stock springs.

/edit - it's not that I'm not impressed, I just hate the phrase "Stock" when you start dorking with heads, cams, intakes.

He should add that the "other thing they did" was to run a FAST XFI efi system. SO this is not *really* a low-buck approach. But as Bill points out, it's a heluva lot cheaper than going after those kinds of numbers N/A.

those are some amazing numbers, I hope they put it in a car and drive it - maybe something 2 seat or model A(ish) that's super light.

Not to be too cynical because I think it's an amazing thing that they learned (I'm suspicious about "finding" it was a 4.8. It's one thing to run it on a dyno where you can monitor everything, have a nice water intercooler, and watch the motor when you're making glory pulls - out in the real world, not so much....

also, the Hot Rod bump has occurred to 4.8 motors - someone up here wants $2200 for their stock 4.8.

So what is the differences internaly between a 5.3 and a 4.8 besides bore/stroke. what about a 6.0?
