ROFLMAO
I gotta go to another computer to down load the pics. This ancient box isn't compatible with the camera.
I need a new computer!!!I'm still learningComment

new laptops, even the really inexpensive, will kick the shit out of any desktop I have remaining in the house. I don't even bother getting the hotrod any more because even the dogs will do more than I need now. For example - 300.00 Toshiba below.
memorabilia collectibles clothing "computer accessories" Fry's "Fry's Electronics" frys.com Arena Football League AFL San Jose Sabercats Football Team "San Jose Sabercats" "Sabercats Football" "The San Jose Sabercats" thesanjosesabercats.com "Charley Chip"
not that I'm pushing Frys, but my last four laptops have been Toshiba. Despite me still hating them for selling government sub secrets a million years ago, I can't find anything wrong with their machines. I got a cheapy camera, plugged it into last years machine here at Che Beagle, and poof. It all just works. I LOVE this new stuff. There is a lost romance in hours of driver searching and bios updates, but hell, I just want to use the thing sometimes. This new junk pretty much just works out of the box. The only upgrade I will do any more is a solid state drive so I don't lose data when I drop the box.
Did you mention having a better PC that was infected or something? Lemme know, I have some sources available that can probably fix it, gratis.
Dammit. I stayed up until 11:00 cuz I didn't know if you meant AM or PM. lol.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

I spent a bunch of money on a hot rod computer box so that I could run engine simulations quickly. I use to start the sims and then walk away for a half an hour. The one I bought would crush through them while I sat there. Unfortunately it got hammered by some internet asshat. My brother is an IT pro, but about as reliable as the weatherman. Its been sitting in his garage for the last 18 months, and he's moved at least once. I'm not sure that he knows where it is anymore. Soooo....
Yep, I think I'll move to a lap top, I need one anyhow for tuning the engine computer systems on the cars.
Sorry about not performing by 11:00, I'll get some stuff up to day.
Have to go to brunch with the Lovely Donna, first.I'm still learningComment

my god that car is beautiful...a steal for 7k IMO...looks as clean as my 08 does.If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

Hey bob, very stupid question. You wouldn't happen to have an extra set of recaros do you?
If you do and want to let them go I call first dibs.Jeff

SVOs came with Lear-Siegler's. Common misconception is that they were Recaros.
Unfortunately, no, don't have any extras.I'm still learningComment

This is what I started with :

After washing off, this is one coat of NuFinish:

Not bad, but a bit hazy, so two coats of NuFinish:

Now its starting to look pretty good!! Still, I had a bit of hazing that I wasn't pleased with, so I tried the 3m finish abrasive and then NuFinish:

Wow, really sharp and nice.
The boys pulled the car out of the boneyard so I could get a better look at it:

Most of these cars were loved at one point in their lives, which you can tell by the fact that the paint had been waxed or rubbed to the point of rub through. Which is a problem. I modified the procedure on the roof sample to just include claying and two coats of NuFinish:

So enough with body paint. Looks like it can be acceptably saved. So on to working on the car.Last edited by Bob Holmes; July 17, 2011, 10:09 PM.I'm still learningComment

very cool, have you considered simply scuffing the car and reshooting clear on it? I've gone with the nufinish and, while it works great for cars I want to sell, 6 months and it looks cloudy and needs redone.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

There is no clear on the car. This color was still single stage back then. I'm trying to avoid the cost of paint, I'd rather spend the money on other things for the car.I'm still learningComment

the paint will probably look fine, looks pretty good to me. The ones I've done that stuff are about the same as with staged Mcguires polish/cleaner/wax and if I waxed again a few weeks later I never saw a problem. I'm with you, make it run, worry about the paint later if it really bothers you. Get those kids some rags...
btw, most new laptops will flatten most anything from 18 months ago desktop... the sim stuff I use screams on this turd (4 core 64 bit 3 gb ram) compared to my last desktop, like 20 seconds compared to 4 or 5 minutes. That, and you're portable. A small inverter and you're waaay portable. The Lithium Ion batteries are pretty amazing on their own, but a 200 watt inverter on top of that and you're good to go. It's amazing how many unsecured hotspots there are throughout the country. Most, if not all of our "Rest Stops" in Texas now have wireless internet available free of charge for example.
anyway, back to making it rumble. Good to see it will clean up!Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

It may not ending up looking like new, but what you are doing will certainly make it look much better. It was easy to burn through the '80's base/clear paints. Many of the do-it-yourselfers over polished their paint jobs. I'll have to pickup a bottle of Nufinish and try it on the Monte Carlo and Caprice with the clay bar I have.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver
